Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Massachusetts) scored the other two United States goals. Nicole Hensley (Lakewood, Colorado) made 28 saves in goal for the win.

“Our goal was to come in on day one and be better by the end and I think we accomplished that,†said Robb Stauber, head coach of the 2017 United States Women’s National Team.
“I’m so proud of this team. It’s an unbelievable feeling to have been able to win a gold medal here tonight in front of our amazing fans.â€

Goaltender Hensley kept the score tied with a sprawling glove save on the rush later in the period.

Just 42 seconds into the final period, Bellamy gave the United States a 2-1 lead with her second goal of the contest.
The play started when Knight gathered the puck at the side of the net and fed a centering pass between her legs for Bellamy, who buried the puck for the score.
Brianne Jenner scored unassisted for Canada with 10:16 to play to tie the game.
The United States had two power-plays in the final 7:24 of regulation, but was unable to convert as the world championship entered overtime for the second straight year.

Knight Scores Overtime Goal To Give United States Gold Medal Win Over Canada - Amy Moritz - Friday, March 7 - Buffalo News. com

It was Hilary Knight. Of course it was Hilary Knight. Knight scored in overtime to give the United States a 3-2 win over Canada and the gold medal in the IIHF Women's World Championship in USA Hockey arena in Plymouth, Michigan, Friday night. Knight blocked a shot in the defensive zone and got the puck to Kendall Coyne. The speedy forward created space in the rush into the Canadian zone and passed to Knight who found the back of the net.

It was the fourth straight World Championship for the United States but the first time they've won on home soil. The United States took silver in Lake Placid, New York (1994), Minneapolis (2001) and Burlington, Vermont (2012). It also was the fourth time in the last six gold medal games of the Women's World Championship that the United States and Canada have gone to overtime. This was the 18th IIHF Women's World Championship and all 18 have featured a United States-Canada final.

From start to finish, it was a classic American-Canadian battle. Canada took the early lead, scoring just 1:01 into the game with Meghan Agosta scoring in transition. The United States tied it up at 4:34 on a wrist shot from Kacey Bellamy. The scoreless second period saw quality chances both ways, although Canada had the edge. United States goalie Nicole Hensley made several big stops, including an impressive glove save late in the period on Bailey Bram.

The United States came out strong in the third and just 42 seconds into the period, Bellamy took a beautiful backhand pass from Knight and scored her second of the game to give the Americans a 2-1 lead. It was the first two goals of the tournament for Bellamy, an alternate captain for United States. Over her previous 36 games in the World Championships, Bellamy had totaled just two goals.

With 10:16 left in the third, Canada appeared to score on the power play but the call on the ice was no goal. After reviewing the play, officials called a good goal for Brianne Jenner, tying the game, 2-2 with 10:16 left in the third. The United States had two late power plays in regulation, but couldn't get a goal. The Americans dominated the start of overtime, using their speed to keep pressure on Canada.

The Buffalo Beauts today announced the signing of a complete forward line from Adrian College that was a force in Division III hockey over the last four seasons.
Kristin Lewicki, Kaylyn Schroka and Sarah Shureb have all signed contracts to play for Buffalo in the 2017-2018 NWHL season.
As seniors this past year, the line of Lewicki, Schroka and Shureb combined for 187 points on 86 goals and 101 assists.

“They were a force together,” said Beauts GM and co-coach Ric Seiling.
“Their stats speak volumes and they showed us at our free agent camp what they’re capable of.
We look for them to carry their magic over to the NWHL.”

Lewicki was 90-89-179 in 113 games over her four-year career from 2013-2017 at Adrian, for a points-per-game average of 1.58.
As a senior, Lewicki led the Bulldogs to the 2017 DIII national title game and led the nation with 66 points (32 goals and 34 assists).
The West Virginia native was named NCHA Player of the Year and first-team All-America by the American Hockey Coaches Association.
She graduated Adrian with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in business administration.

Over the same four years at Adrian, Schroka was 69-80-149 in 111 games, and Shureb was 46-56-102 in 108 games.
Schroka and Shureb are both from Michigan and played in the Little Caesars youth hockey program.
Lewicki started out playing on boys’ teams in Wheeling before joining the Pittsburgh Seals program at age 11.

After four dominant years at Adrian, the trio has a chance to stick together in the pros.

Eric Tiedemann‏ @Tiedes59 - I haven't been this excited to see a whole line come to the pros since the Hansen Brothers came to the Charleston Chiefs! LOL! Good Luck!

LaxSabre - This is cool! Of course watch them start the opening game together - play one shift - Seiling sees something wrong - breaks the trio up - they never get back together!

KELLEY STEADMAN RETIRES A CHAMPION -
Isobel Cup Winner - Two-Time NWHL All-Star - Two-Time Gold Medalist with USA Hockey - Returns to Mercyhurst As Assistant Coach.

Buffalo Beauts Forward Kelley Steadman, one of the greatest players in the first two seasons of the NWHL, has announced her retirement.
Steadman has been named as an assistant coach of the women’s hockey team at Mercyhurst, her alma mater.
In 18 games for Buffalo, Steadman scored 18 goals and added 12 assists for 30 points.
In her final game in the NWHL, the two-time all-star won the Isobel Cup as the Beauts defeated the Pride, 3-2.

“The Lakers have brought back an amazing hockey player, coach and individual,” said Buffalo GM and co-coach Ric Seiling.
“The Beauts will miss her as a teammate, the fans will miss her rushes and goals, and I will miss her ever-confident smile and ‘We got this, Coach.
Kelley was an integral part of not only the Beauts’ Isobel Cup title in March, but of our instant popularity in Buffalo.
In our first year, we were not the strongest in scoring, and she would take that burden and become the most prolific goal scorer in the NWHL.
In the Cup Final, we saw her style of playing change to what championships are made of - shot-blocking, grit and composure, as well as talking on the bench, giving direction to her teammates.
The Buffalo Beauts were honored to have Kelley Steadman on our teams in our first two seasons. Good luck, Steady.”

Steadman’s career was filled with championships.
She was also a two-time gold medalist at the IIHF Women's World Championships (2011, 2013), a member of the Clarkson Cup champion Boston Blades of the CWHL in 2012-2013 and the European Cup champion Moscow Tornado of the EWHL in 2013-2014.
At Mercyhurst, Steadman was the CHA Player of the Year and the league’s top scorer in 2011-12.

Steadman, who turns 27 on July 17, spent the last three seasons with the women’s team at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.
One year as a volunteer assistant and two years as the director of hockey operations.
When the NWHL brought its All-Star Game to Pittsburgh earlier this year, Steadman was one of the team’s captains.

Kelley is an extraordinary hockey player/wonderful ambassador for the game - NWHL was blessed that she was part of the league in our early days,” said NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan.
“It is fitting that she leaves the game as a pro player with an Isobel Cup in Buffalo and after captaining Team Steady at the All-Star Game in Pittsburgh.
We wish Kelley all the best in her coaching career. Mercyhurst knows they’ve got a great one.”
