Point had 2 goals and 1 assist in Canada's 6-0 win over the CIS Selects team from earlier today.

Canada beats university all-stars 6-0. Shots 45-22. Point, Virtanen, Ritchie, Gauthier among Canada's top players.
The line of Gauthier between Point and Ritchie hasn't been inside its own blue line yet. Completely dominating in offensive zone.
Hard to see Point getting cut. Just dipsy-doodled, set up Virtanen for PPG. Point also was on PK a few minutes ago. 5-0 Canada.
What does Groulx like about Point? "A lot of things. He is playing with a lot of passion, competes. He has a flair out there."

"@SWhyno: @TSNBobMcKenzie Not as high on Brayden Point yet?" He's been fantastic. Strong summer camp. Great Subway Series. Terrific here.
Another terrific outing for 5-foot-8, 160-pound Brayden Point (TB/Moose Jaw). Best player on the ice for Team CAN for 2nd consecutive day.
No doubt for me Point and Crouse go to St. Catharines with team but final roster won't be named until after RUS game Fri nite at earliest.

Point continues making strong case for a Canadian roster spot picking up 2nd goal … TBL prospect also stood out yesterday

Wow, I didn't realize just how small Point is. Maybe it's those jerseys. But there's no way that kid is 160 pounds.

Good to see him having success though. Looking like another steal so far.

been watching point since novice. I always knew he had a shot at the NHL at his size because of his IQ, which is off the charts.

I've been hyping him just like a quarter of calgary who got to see this kid live for the last 10 years. he came through the same system that produced heatley, eberle, klimchuk, merkley and countless more guys. even though i never saw heatley or eberle play in midget i can compare him to klimchuk and merkley, hes just simply better than those 2(merkley might be closing in now but as off their 16 year old seasons).

before the draft I said he was going to get drafted in the 20-40 range and become one of the main steals of the draft, become an eberle/ gallagher mix. Long way to go but i've seen this kid from ice level somewhere around 50 times and i've always been a believer. Just like gaudreau for my flames you just believe in these talented high IQ player when you see them live. 5'8 150 is my guess on his size, but he's a good one.

nhl.com, the Moose jaw Warriors, and a few other places have him listed as 5' 10". Idk, he could be 160.

He's about as close to 5'10 as Marty was to 5'8. But he's also child-thin. I'm not saying that as a bad thing or anything. He'll obviously grow. There are just a few angles in the recent videos where he looks shockingly small.

Thanks to herashek for the insight. I remember on draft day a few guys around here were really excited that we took Point. It looks like he's proving them right.

Point is becoming one of the most talked about players in Canada  Can't wait until we can get him in Syracuse. He's a speedy, smart player who has a nice well-rounded game.

Eliteprospects.com has him at 178 cm / 5'10" and 74 kg / 163 lbs.

Listings don't mean much. It's well-known they're exaggerated, particularly for smallish players. I'd be surprised if he's much over 150, which I think is right around Johnny Gadreau's size. (Although no one's too sure about how big he is either, since his listing also seems way off.)

While Canada's world junior team is a long ways away from show time, two players have already shown they're worthy of that moniker.

Forwards Jake Virtanen and Brayden Point were anointed "Show Time" by teammates in the dressing-room Sunday after Canada's second exhibition game against local university all-stars. Virtanen and Point were among the players who acquitted themselves well over the weekend as selection camp drew to a close.
Point, a Tampa Bay Lightning prospect playing with the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors, was in playmaking and scoring mode in the two games. Coach Benoit Groulx referred to him as "relentless" and said he likes "a lot of things" about him.

"He's playing with a lot of passion and competes," Groulx said. "He's got a flair out there, a lot of anticipation. He's been good. He's been very good."

Groulx gushed about Point more than any other player over the weekend. That's not bad for him.

"If he saw something he liked, then that's good for me," Point said. "You always want to do your best and impress."

Neither Virtanen nor Point were considered a sure bet to make Canada when selection camp opened Thursday. But they more than survived the first round of cuts and will be at Meridian Centre in St. Catharines on Monday when main camp opens.

Still, forgive Point for not wanting to get ahead of himself and think he has already made the team.

"There's a lot of guys that played well, so you never know," Point said. "I'm just going to try to keep working hard. If I can keep going through the process, then I'll keep working hard."

#tblightning prospect Andrei Vasilevskiy named AHL Player of the Week. Allowed one goal in three games. @SyracuseCrunch

http://www.syracuse.com/crunch/inde...r?hootPostID=30df9f292c51bda80dca73cc5ac60c14
When assistant coach Trent Cull announced the award in the Crunch's locker room after practice Monday, loud cheers erupted.

"It's good, but I didn't know what to say. Just thank you guys for the cheers,'' Vasilevskiy said. "We have a good team. This award is for all the team, not for just me.''
"The team (played) very well the last few games. But keep going. We need to work,'' Vasilevskiy said. "My confidence right now is a little bit higher. But my coach in Russia told me if you play bad game, forget. If you play very well, forget most quickly. We have have games, games, games. We need to forget every game, good, bad games and think about next game.''

Tuesday was the first day of the US selection camp. Erne practiced on a line with Cole Cassels and JT Compher. DeAngelo was paired up with Ian McCoshen, who was on the team last year.

Was checking out the Crunch box score and see they played 7 D but Dotchin wasn't one of them. Thought he was playing good so far this year, is he injured?

After the second day of the USA Hockey evaluation camp for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship on Wednesday, DeAngelo said anxiety cost him last year when he was cut from this camp in Minnesota.

The 19-year-old is more comfortable this time competing against nine other defensemen at Walter Brown Arena on the campus of Boston University for a spot on the 2015 team.

"I had to be [more comfortable]," said DeAngelo, who was drafted in the first round (No. 19) by the Tampa Bay Lightning last June. "Last year, kind of, I was a little too nervous and just trying to be too simple and not playing the game that they brought me in to play. So I changed it around a little bit this year."
A player doesn't put up 71 points in 51 games in the Ontario Hockey League the way DeAngelo did last season by being timid. But he wasn't surprised at being a bit overwhelmed at the USA Hockey camp.

"No, anytime I go into a new surrounding I get kind of shy and not totally myself," DeAngelo said. "So I got to change it around this year and it's been much better so far the past couple days."

DeAngelo said he's more familiar with the other players this year and that's helped put him at ease.
Although offense will always be his main focus, DeAngelo has taken pains to tighten up his defensive game. It's also helped that the Sting are playing better as a group.

"I think it's a little bit of both. I think last year I can't just blame it on the team. It was probably my fault too," DeAngelo said. "[There were] mistakes that I made and we made as a team, but this year's been better, a better structure and better defensive play. So it's starting to show."
DeAngelo wasn't invited to the USA Hockey camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., over the summer. The powers that be, though, told him not to take that personally. Then they invited him to the Boston camp, which concludes with an exhibition game against Boston University on Friday.

The coaches and brass have a role in mind for DeAngelo, and he intends to fill it.

"Yeah, and I think there's no point in bringing somebody in if you don't want to use what they can do for you. So I think they know what they're doing," he said. "Obviously we've got a great group of guys selected to the team and all that kind of stuff. So you've just got to come in and do what they brought you in for. And if they have adjustments for you to make, you make them. And otherwise you just go out and play."
