In addition to what AF was saying about Rafikov, I decided to look up some more about the kid. According to this article from January, the Flames are willing to wait on him.

“He’s an aggressive kid and he wants to make a difference and he wants to make an impact, and if you are that type of player and you get caught out of position and you are not a good skater, then it’s harder for you to recover,” Button said. “For sure, in the last two years, his feet are waaaaaay better. They’re underneath him a lot more. He doesn’t get caught out of position being aggressive as much because he has the ability to recover.

“His puck play is good. His mentality is good. His brain is good. I would say it’s just the physical part of skating and getting stronger and getting his feet underneath him a little bit more.”

“We keep in good contact with him through our development guys. We don’t want to bring him over before he’s ready, and we have time on him. There’s no rush to get him here. The longer he can play over there and play at a high level, that’s good for us. We don’t have to develop everybody in the AHL. The coach there in Yaroslavl right now is Dave King, and Dave King is a pretty good development coach. He’s a well-respected guy who can help a young guy like that, so we’re not in a rush to get him over.

“We’re certainly in a patient mode with (Rafikov),” Button added. “He’s a seventh-round pick and he was a seventh-round pick for a reason — it’s because he needs a little more time. We have that with him, and we’re going to use it.”

Haven't seen Klimchuk play in Brandon but good to see he's doing well. Lots of youngsters to get excited for these days!

I've watched Brandon a ton since his trade. He looks good; used in all situations and has great IQ.

It'll be fun seeing him go pro soon!

Klimchuk kind of seems like the forgotten man here. I think he'll be a very good top 6 forward that will be used in all situations

you mean other than the swiss miss asking for a trade?

I wonder how my Klimchuk is as good or better than Baertschi argument would go over these days? haha

If we didn't have the depth we do, he may have gotten more rope in his demands for ice time. I think his request to be moved was obliged because he's fairly replaceable.

I'm not recommending someone posts that on the mainboard lol.

While I think we all agree that Klimchuk is probably ready to play in the AHL next year, what about the possibility of him going back to Brandon one last year as an OAer?

Before everyone gets in a fit, I doubt he makes the big team, and there are a glut of LWers in the system right now, adding Carrol graduating.
In Brandon he would probably be on a line with Nolan Patrick who is going to have a helluva year next year. I think we could afford to have him spend one more year in Junior, then in 2016-17 he plays one year in the AHL tops.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Carroll is a RW from what I've heard, and Wolf/Ferland are waiver eligible next season. That leaves basically Klimchuk, Agostino, and Elson as AHL LWs. Not a ton of competition for Klimmer.

I think he has to make the jump at this point. Brandon is lining up for as a long postseason and should send klimchuk off in a big way.

Lines and players can be moved. Both Klimchuk and Carroll should be playing meaningful minutes in the AHL.

Klimchuk playing in the WHL as an overage player makes zero sense at all. Very few drafted players go back as overage players unless they are a late round pick and/or were drafted late (ie. Carroll). When was the last time we saw a first round pick from any team go back as an overage player? Having him in Stockton where we can control his development makes much more sense than having him in Brandon.

I don't want to lose any of Wolf, Ferland or Reinhart :(

I doubt Wolfie and Ferland will go anywhere. Ferly's already being groomed this year for a bottom line roll. He's seeming more comfortable every game. I think Reino is just in an unfortunate position. He's been passed on every single depth chart we have by kids with significantly higher ceillings. I think Calgary's best move for him would be to ship him out to Buffalo for some room/pick/similar prospect.

We forget we picked up guys like Shore too, who is already NHL level talent and is similar to Reino in a lot of ways... But better.

if Providence is the #15 seed they could potentially meet Boston University in the NCAA championship game
