I am guessing he must be more offensive than the goat, even though the goat looks like he has good hands. The goat needs to change his mindset to an offensive game.

I think people are under estimating this guy's skill a bit. I remember a couple of prospect camps back he was good but then something happened and he kind of faltered. He has the skill but he's somewhat up and down with the way he plays. I think he's more suited for the third line that can chime in here and there more so than 4th liner. The closest I can think of recent times that would give me hope and then **** the living crap out of me would be Peter Holland actually. I am happy with this signing, and I hope he shows some good stuff.

Frattin was a big time scorer in college with a deadly shot. In Frattin's final season he was a Hobey Baker finalist because he led the NCAA in goals. Toninato evolved into a defensive specialist. Aside from both being college players there actually isn't that much similarity between the two

Well actually they were both drafted prior to their college careers out of the AJHL and USHL and were signed after a four year college career which is kind of atypical.

Been a couple years now since I had a good look at him, but when I did he reminded me of Stajan. Not particularly talented, but a strong head for the game, moves around the ice pretty well and has a good stick.

Pity.

Wish they hadn't resigned as many vet Marlies time this is the case. While it's no huge loss still think he can turn into a quality 4C in the NHL, some team will take a chance on him

Greening and Mueller could be deemed necessary. Marlies lack veteran depth up front, and both bring some size/grit that the team lacked. Plus both play center, another thing this team lacks.

There is room for Toninato, but it did get a lot tougher once we signed Greening and Mueller. The Leafs did have 4 open spots (minus 3 RFA's, which equals 1 open spot) for him. I guess 50/50 was not going to happen right now, but considering we have to move out a ton of guys, there would have been contract space for him. Just a matter of lineup spot, which is not there right now.

It's quite possible the Leafs just move Toninato for a pick or throw him into a bigger deal and be done with it. He's a good defensive forward, but the Leafs center spots are not exactly up for grabs in the near future. Kadri has the 3C locked down. Gauthier has the future 4C spot locked down essentially (and it's not hard to fill a 4C spot otherwise). Brooks and Joshua are fighting for similar roles sooner rather than later. Leafs need more guys like McGregor, Bobylev and Kara; guys who can be ready to fight for a center (or wing) spot in 4 or 5 years.

Who cares?? We have Gauthier and it's not a big deal to find someone like Moore through free agency anyway. Good luck buddy, too bad you won't be playing for a team that's going to contend through out your career.

Was not his choice. We do not have the contract spot for him apparently.

He wanted to come here.

He wanted to sign with the Leafs.

I think he could be better than Gauthier too.

I thought we were at around 48 including brown and Hyman?

49 including them. Leafs likely wanted an extra spot, which makes sense.

However, if the Leafs trade a few guys like they are expected to do, there should be a spot available for him if we want him.

Still face the problem of having too many centers on the Marlies though. Smith, Greening, Mueller and Brooks, plus Gauthier on LTIR. Toninato makes 6. You can move Smith and Greening to the wing, but there would be a lot of wingers then.
