The one problem with Yzerman though none of his high draft picks amounted to anything.

Yah, I heard that bitching from the WWP when they specifically cited de Angelo and Connolly.

de Angelo only played what 60ish game last year and outscored anyone on the Wings D.

Connolly had 40+ points on even strength playing under 14 minutes a night which ain't bad. Its kinda impressive actually.

Vasilevskiy only won the Vezina this past season.

Namestnikov is a solid middle 6 forward.

Drouin is a perrenial 50 point guy (apparently they go 6-7 million a year these days), and could be much if he didn't hinder himself.

You can't really judge a draft class till about 5-6 years out.

Last time a Red Wing won a Vezina as the best goalie in league was...... never.

Eh, people crapped all over him early in his tenure in Tampa. It's water off a duck's back. What is the key to his success? It's probably that he has a talent for hiring great people and assessing talent. He needed to build that talent pool in Tampa and if you've been watching the Red Wings you know he has a hell of a lot of work to do here in that regard. And it's not going to happen overnight.
