He has NMC and signed on a reasonable contract long term that Anaheim can afford. Curious what the going rate for the guy is. With Kesler injury prone, Ducks can use em on the 2nd or third line.

Any fans input on what it would take? Thanks

Not worth trading the prospects it would take and roster players since this team is no where near contending. I blame the aging core and BM/ownership. Yes RC isn't helping, but there are bigger issues to deal with.

Picks and prospects most likely, Tampa doesn't have room back for cap or roster players.

Kase + Mahura + 3rd?
Think this would be an easy no from Anaheim IMO. There is no point for Anaheim in trading for Johnson if they are trading away one of their best forwards in Kase to acquire him, that leaves Anaheim back where they started while also losing a quality prospect in Mahura. Also are Tampa not trying to get rid of salary? Kase is looking at a 2.5-3m contract in RFA this off-season so I'm not sure how they would fit it in anyway.

Either way, Anaheim aren't going to be contenders again anytime soon - they should be holding onto young players like Kase as he will be one of the core players for Anaheim post Getzlaf/Perry/Kesler.

Agree with the previous posters...Ducks won't be giving up decent picks or prospects at this point given where the team is trending.

The only way Johnson makes sense to the Ducks is as a cap dump if TB acquires Karlsson. In that case, TB gets cap relief and not much else. Otherwise, the two teams don't really make good trading partners.

Johnson is still a very good top six center and those are always in high demand. Moving him to free cap space for Karlsson may lower the return somewhat but there are enough teams in need of a center that we’d still get something decent for him.

Johnson wouldn't be a fill in though...He's locked up for 6 years and would be Anaheim's 2nd best C.

Problem is we don't know what the deal with Kesler is. Is he playing this year at all? Ever? If he's just sitting out this year and planning a comeback at some point there is no way we can afford Johnson short of letting Henrique and/or Silf go. It's just going to be hard for the Ducks to make any long term commitments until they know exactly where Kesler stands health wise.

Picks/Prospects for Johnson. We can't take on money (considering we're only moving TJ if it's to bring in EK).

We should not be moving future assets for anyone at this point.
That's a reasonable take. Are you guys really that far from being good, though? Last year you all were ridiculously hurt and still finished with over 100 points. This sounds to me like a situation where the fanbase thinks the window is closed without good reason.

We're still very good but a big part of that is because we grow young players to fill in for our declining players. In the not too distant future we'll need to grow replacements for Kesler, Getzlaf, Perry, Cogliano, and whoever doesn't stay between Silfverberg and Henrique. We're also going to need money to sign all of these players so having a player like Steel produce on an ELC is worth more to us than acquiring TJ for that role and taking on his contract.

We have good reason. One being our dinosaur of a coach who doesn't know how to coach a modern team playstyle, but also the complete uncertainty with Kesler and Perry. Kes is not going to be as good as he was two years ago, he will be worse when he comes back, IF he ever comes back. Perry is regressing, who knows how he will be next year. Their contracts take up so much of our cap, plus Getz even though he still a top center. With contracts needed for Montour, Kase, Ritchie this off season; Gibson Silf, Henrique next season spending cost controlled assets for Johnson contract for the next 6 seasons just isn't smart. Johnson will not put us over the top and make us a contender so, so it's best to just work with what we have and see where we go. Maybe we can pull off a Vegas like miracle (which is probably what BM is hoping for anyway).

What do we need Tyler Johnson for? Even if Kesler misses the season, we can just have Getzlaf-Steel-Henrique down the middle.

Johnson would be a solid addition because we don’t have a lot of his type of player on our team. He (and Henrique) can also play wing if need be. That said, we’re just as struck for cash as Tampa so the teams don’t make good trading partners. Unless we find a way of shedding Perry or Kesler (not happening), we’re not adding any type of significant salary. see this offseason so far.
