They are playing NHL players who are taking advantage of Athanasiou up the middle of the ice a lot thus far. Line is doing a lot of chasing and scramble defending and a lot of that is because they are picking on Athanasiou's lack of positional awareness. At least that is my opinion.

Made up for it ;)

This kid team is phenomenal.

3 games

4-5 (ot) against Chicago (mostly vets)
6-1 beat the **** out of Penguins (mostly kids)
3-1 vs. Boston (mostly vets)

also our Vet side isn't bad either

2 games

4-1 vs. Chicago (mostly kids)
3-4 (ot) vs. Boston (mostly kids)

My god we are gonna rock in few years. We play with those split rosters and nobody hasn't been able to beat us on the regular time yet. Superb work from Blashill.

Third period:

Larkin, XO good again. Jensen too (except for coverage on the goal)

Jimmy a bit busier that period played well.

Ericsson that period....woof.

Thiss kid squad would be better than Buffalo Sabres if Blashill would be the coach.

It is worth noting these kids for the most part know his system in and out. Larkin is special as we all are seeing. But there is a comfort level that is showing out with a couple of these guys that have spent a lot more time around Blashill.

Also those Top team veterans could get positives from this situation. Those Griffins kids will teach them about details in Blashill's system. That's quite funny. :) This Detroit-Grand Rapids -combo could really be showing it's strengths now in this coacing change. It could be the smoothest ever.

Can someone explain how Blashill's system has looked compared to Babcock's so far? What are the differences?

So Cleary gets a point tonite. Does that mean Holland makes him a regular in the real season this year?

Hopefully this helps: (borrowed from another thread, think it's a great post)

1.) They back pressure in lanes similar to what you see out of Tampa. Rather than chase pucks through the neutral zone they place a premium on quick transition back to defense which impacts passing from the opposition and actually does create a fair amount of turnovers. If you want to eat the puck and carry it up the boards until there is pressure that is your prerogative, but it isn't a trapping mechanism to turn the puck over there, if it happens it happens and that is generally derived out of the oppositions stupidity many times a night.

2.) This is the premium on lane hockey in transition defense, rather than scramble and defend to pickup they maintain a discipline in the neutral zone making it harder to transition as well as most would think. You're not racing for a man on man assignment which becomes more clear in zone. You do that to neutralize transition hockey while keeping the pace of the game at incredible heights believing your pace both offensively and defensively will eventually break the opposition.

3.) Our players that are coming up play a speed game both offensively and defensively. Our future franchise netminder is very adapt at playing the puck. It complements the group which is why so many saw incredible success under Blash.

It is not a be all end all. It just describes in a nutshell Blashill's philosophy. He places that premium on the neutral zone offensively and defensively because it sets the tempo of both his offense and defense. It is a very direct system, without the crash and bang of the Kings it represents elements of the Wings system and the Kings system together if that makes any sense.

Also the boardplay element isn't really the same as elsewhere. They are not cycling in the corner nor do they want to keep the puck in the corner defensively for the most part. They want that downlow board play to take place directly behind the net, it might just be a five foot difference but trust me it is different from the norm in terms of where the funnel the donwlow board play and where they want their offense operating.

Far better than I could ever explain it.

Howard was in mid season form, the game was evenly matched and he was the biggest difference.

AA impresses me, no doubt ready to play NHL games this year and contribute.

Loved Ouellet's game, he plays with passion. And in just about every situation. I think if it was up to Blashill he'd get a jersey.

Jurco had exactly the type of game he needs, not just working hard but getting some production. Goal was a really slick play.

Mantha doesn't need much to get his shot off but right now he's not creating that space for himself. He needs to find a way to become visible, other guys stand out more as it stands.

Larkin stood out mostly defensively and backchecking, despite quite a bit of offensive minutes. Flying out there on the PK. I just think it will be in everyones best interest that he gets to score some AHL goals and get more offensive responsibility. He's NHL ready though, no doubt.

Miller really stood out on his line, in fact he made the line. All things considered he was probably the Wings' best forward in the game which you don't get to say often. Andersson is a safe card but Glendening should center him, we need top9 wing spots for others. How good would Miller-Glendening-Helm be?

Beyond that the Bruins have a gem in Pastrnak, he's insanely elusive and is just a kid. Will be hard to stop once he's got the strength to match his breakaway speed.
