Definitely don't see anything to be impressed with Lappin over. He scored 2 goals last week? That's all I got. Mike Sislo scored goals in preseason games also. If he makes the team, I'd probably only be okay with it if he starts the season as a healthy scratch.

I think one of the reasons we got outplayed is because there's still too much deadweight that we had out there tonight, who hopefully won't be on this team on opening night.

You can start in net with that...KK our 'second' goalie has only played like one complete game out of the four. Lack, Blackwood and Chad Johnson have played the rest.

I think JQ is locked into one of the forward slots. I don't think they know who has the other one yet.
Lappin may make sense just because of waiver status. It wouldn't kill me to have him as the extra forward sitting on the bench while the other kids play down in the A.

Yup

And I definitely didn't like goals 1 and 2 tonight. He had goal 1 and dropped it, then it created a brief netmouth scramble where there probably shouldn't have been one. And then he allowed a pretty poor goal right after that, which was the second goal allowed. He looked shaky the entire 2nd period, after looking very strong in the 1st period. He was barely saving a few of those shots right before the Rangers finally broke through, then looked shaky on a few saves in the 3rd late in regulation. He didn't have a chance on goals 3 and 4, but those first two goals reminded me of watching last October-February Kinkaid or pretty much any Cory game in March and April (regular season) last year.

I think it is a combo of things. Our 1st and 2nd string goalies not playing is part of it.

I think last offseason our vets came in with a purpose after such a shitty season. This year they aren’t looking to prove as much in preseason and are coasting. Something that must drive Hynes insane, but is also normal.

Another is our borderline guys don’t look as ready as the ones last year. Again this isn’t a big deal either. Seney and company needing more seasoning is fine, and we really only have one bottom 6 spot open anyway.

Talent level is there, team needs to just get in sync and up their compete level, and I have faith they will get there before the games start to count.

On another note Smith looks awesome. How he fell to 17 baffles me right now.

Lappin also makes sense from a hands perspective. He is a natural RW. JQ isn’t and the spot open is a RW spot.

JQ earned a spot IMO, but I am not sure there is a spot for him with Wood back in the fold unless someone can effectively move to RW.

Curious if we see someone play their off wing in Winnipeg to test this out.

i thought lack played pretty well. not perfect, but he made a few really nice saves when he needed to. considering how the devils played for the first 40, not bad at all

Wish someone would create a new Spiderman Meme :

It's Preseason!

LET'S ARGUE!
I did a Devils loss one. I figured it could get usage in more than just preseason since we already have a Devils win one.

Might be Seney, Chris Ryan made the point that he could possibly fill Gibbons' spot.
I could see him filling Boyle's spot. I like the guy, but I just don't see how Boyle fits this team's style. I was a bit surprised when we signed him.

A 4th line of Wood-Seney-JQ/Bratt could add some potential tertiary scoring.

Good thing is, I don't think the rags have much more than that, and the Devils didn't even try for 95% of the game.

They definitely don’t. They needed OT to beat Lack and our team going like 50% speed, and they looked to be going close to all out.

Hall and Nico torched them on like the three shifts they decided to go full speed.

JQ should be the 4C and Boyle should be the 13th forward. Boyle has sunk to a borderline player in my view. He is big but he’s slow he’s not winning faceoffs and he’s not consistently physical. Given his age I’d rather see if JQ can grow into that role early in the season.

I hope I am wrong. But this preseason feels very different from last year.

By dint of taking a look at so many different guys, it feels like the current squad has no coherence.

Last year we made the playoffs because we came out of the shoot fast. This year?

So far, except for Hall, Nico and Palms it feels like we’ve got nothing solid. Except an exceptional talent in Ty Smith. He’s 18 years old and skinny but has been the 4th top player in camp. How do you not keep him up? Quenneville looks good too.

But: 1. I am beginning to doubt that Bratt has anything at all to offer except style points. 2. What
has Johansson ever done for us? 3. An aging lunk of a Brian Boyle? 4. Vatanen consistently stumbling around, whiffing, fanning, losing his balance. 5. Absolutely nothing else consistent. 6. Our goaltending is suspect.

Please prove me wrong guys but there has been nothing to feel good about this Fall, nothing, where last year you could feel good things about to happen. We have not looked better in 2 preseason games than a very mediocre Rangers team.

We can not afford to start the season playing this way.

Sure it’s just preseason. But think how much our preseason last year contributed to our success. Then think how we look now. This does not bode well. It needs to be turned around now. When are we going to get serious?

Of course @Devils Dominion would like this Doom And Gloom post.:facepalm::facepalm:

Man.....What do you think this team is? The NY Jets?

We are giving young players chances to make the team. This isn't about going undefeated in the Preseason.

Remember that we were supposed to be REBUILDING last season and wound up making the postseason.

We're STILL Rebuilding.

Once the regular lineup settles in there should be at least three tough to play against lines. The second line, like last season, needs to be sorted out but the bottom six with Coleman Wood Zajac Noesen and maybe JQ will push back and play with heart. Hopefully Boyle decides to make a big effort once the season starts and he will help also.

MarJo being back and healthy helps solidify that 2nd line a bit.
