The Cap is tight everywhere and dude is owed a pay day with no trade.....Not sure if any teams have cap space like that and the ones that do don't have good enough pieces to return in a trade. I have a feeling the Preds lucked out here due to all of the above.

Yeah, it's not exactly any coincidence that the Preds have been more than $10M under the cap all season. I wouldn't exactly call it "luck"... Poile planned to have this space available... although it's certainly good for Forsberg that he has stepped up and produced career numbers at exactly the right time so that he could pull in his own best possible payday from the Preds. Either way, he was coming back to Nashville. But it's nicer for him to come back at $9M than $8M.
