This is said literally every year. Czechs should be fun to watch and hopefully they can feast on Denmark and Switzerland, but no way they get past the QF. Our chance was last year and they blew it.

This is said literally every year. Czechs should be fun to watch and hopefully they can feast on Denmark and Switzerland, but no way they get past the QF. Our chance was last year and they blew it.

but Czech Republic has never had 3 1st round 19 year olds. They will be anything but dominant offensively. Especially with the additions of guys like Lauko, Safin, Teply, and Pekar. The offensive strength is far better then last year. Goaltending is better.
So therefore I disagree with you that last year was our chance.
Overall we will be better.

Safin has to be a pretty big question mark for the tournament right now I would think.

I can't see Canada getting anything but Gold with their potential roster, and I also have a tough time seeing the States do anything with their forward group... I'm sure i'm wrong though. Finland should be pretty gross and the Czech's should roll a nice first line too. I'm excited for Boxing Day to get here already

IMO if Knight is the starter for the U.S. and has a "best goalie" performance the U.S. has a great shot at gold. We have an excellent defensive group this year and the U.S. tends to do very well when goaltending/defense excels. We also have quite a bit of talent up front with the caveat some of the players are a bit understated and there is the "youth" (relative) element.

I think Canada is a little stronger than us, but I could see us challenging for Gold.

I think the next two years after this one will be years where we'll be the favorite. It doesn't look like any of the 2000 born players will be in the NHL next year. Our 2000 born players are not quite good enough to be NHL'ers right away, despite being really good. You have to get lucky with that sometimes. Aside from Hughes, will any of the 2001 born players be in the NHL next year? I don't think so. Turcotte could, but I think he heads to college. Even if we lose 2-3 of those guys the following year, we still should have like 10 first rounders in the 2019 draft, so I think the 2020 and 2021 World Juniors are going to be very good years for the USA. 2019 looks like more of a down year for us, but I still think we can compete for the title.
