Based on quality of play, the Hawks deserved 4 points (SJ, VAN). They were thoroughly outplayed every other game but managed 8 points. Call it a win.
Good thing "deserving" something means nothing in sports. The Hawks win games like this all the time. They might be the most opportunistic team in sports (minus break aways).
On an individual game basis, sure, 'deserve' doesn't mean much.
Being out-possessed, out-shot, and out-played over long stretches of games, means some trouble.
You can absolutely 'deserve' to be eliminated in the playoffs.
Ended up going 3-1-2.

deserving means nothing. We deserved to be eliminated by the wings on our way to the second cup but we weren't..
if you score more than the other team in a game then you deserve to win.
i do agree that being out played, possed, and shot (to a lesser extent) are not good signs but in the end if the hawks take advantage of their opportunities more so than the other team then they deserve to win.
deserve and deserving are some of the worst words in sports.

.500 in the absolute, yes. And that could be a problem going forward. So, they ended up playing .500 hockey. Actually, that's an improvement over their road record entering into the trip.
They'll have to play at least that well, likely better, on the road from here on out to ensure that they'll make the playoffs out of the central, unless they continue at a fantastic pace at home.
Ah...the half-full vs. half empty argument...
On the half full...these 6 games were of course road games and we still went 3-1-2 for 8 of 12 possible points..If you played .666 for all 82 games you get a 109 Pont season..Ant team would tale that...and of course we play better at home..So you could be encouraged about piling up a lot of points soon as we play 7 9f next 10 at home.
So when the Hawks brass say fairly pleased at the road trip results and 2hen Q says decent for our road trip you might think this glass is at least half-full...but the eyeball test belies this as do some of the individual "contribution s" on the trip....
SO the glass half empty arguments come.....Hawks stunk in the Edmonton ton and Calgary games but still got 3/4 points they really did not deserve..They played better than Vancouver a d a strong game except for the last 5 minutes and except for CC in net who stunk that game..They probably deserved a win on effort for 55 minutes of that game but instead lost 6-3 to Canucks...So far on "deserving g" they should have just 2 of 6 points in the first half of the trip but instead came away with 3 of 6 points...On the 2nd leg of the trip after the Vegas pit stop they got 5 of 6 points...On the eyeball test though they 0layers their best game of the trip in SJ and deserved the 2 points..they came back very late vs.ANH and did not deserve e the 2 points by getting that OT win...and they blew a 2-0 lead by a poor 3rd period to lose 8n OT to L.A. but overall 8n that game hardly generated much...so in the Fi al 3 games though they got 5 of 6 points they really deserved just 2 in my opinion...Thus the results were better than the deserving of points ...in only 2 games did they play very well for the majority of the game and in one of those they still list 6-3 ...the Edmonton,Calgary,Anaheim and L.A. games they really did not play well but still captured 6 points...But failing the stats and eyeball tests of how well they played or not we can say they play well in 4 of tge 6 games ..and then when we analyze individual contributions the Reality hits:
KANE the scoring hero ...9 pts in 6 games scoring points in every game..but a Minus player in 4 of the 6 games and positive in ES play in just 1 of 6 games...not really that net contributing at even strength...
TOEWS...that other $10.5 million guy...Zero points in 4 of the 6 games...2 g 1a for ONLY 3 points on the trip..a +1;in 6 games...Overall this is meh or poor for $10.5 million.
KEITH....3g3a but still only EVEN in the plus/minus over the 6 games...2 negative games 2 positive and 2 even games..Do except for special teams in ES okay hardly a difference'maker. Mixed bag results.
SEABROOK.....1g 5a for the trip...but negative in 3 of the 6 games and positive in just 2 of tge 6 games with one game at even...Again a mixed bag results...
Hossa...2g 1 a on the trip ...2g games positive 1 negative and 3 at even ....Average ...hardly starry ..
ANISIMOV......3g 1a for the trip ...but 3 negative games 2 even and just 1 positive in the ES game ..so again mixed bag.
PANARIN....1g 4a for the trip ...Overall -2 for the trip ...had 2 games of -2 though one of those was inflated by an en goal in VAN...4 games of the 6 with Zero points
..Again hardly impressive ..a bit disappointing ...only 2a in last 5 of 6 he's games...and nothing in last 2 if these games...so quite disappearing..Wonder if 5he grind and 3 in 4 nights schedule getting g to him?
KRUGER.....1a in the 6 games Even ...this hardly impresses especially given 3rd line promotion and having Hossa with him.now..
TVR...ZERO points on the trip...-3 for 6 games overall...positive n just 1 of the 6...A real.problem .Not improving...
.
HAMMER .
1g 1a for the trip 3 Even 2 positive only 1 negative game
+2 overall...Pretty good from him.
Overall from this survey of key individuals we get a mixed bag of hardly impressive stats...Even Kane with his scoring was not that good with his just 1 positive plus minus game out of 6..
Yet despite the mixed bag of stats and the eyeball failure test ..we somehow pull 9ff the 8 of 12 possible points...Decidedly mixed reviews...Not really impressed ...Still a lit 9f work to do..Still some guys pulling below their pay scales...Still Q goita get more from everyone on both effort and on production and or better defensive play..Overall still MEH.

When the entire team is struggling everyone's +- is going to be affected. It's hard to draw conclusion's when 10+ have similar stats.
Kane has been falling asleep a lot more defensively, taking offensive gambles that compromise his defense and positioning. The OT goal against the Kings was a prime example of him being at center ice and looking to pounce rather than making sure nobody got behind him. When he gets in this mode (consistently) he can negate his offensive value.
Kane has been amazing so far but he's started to display some bad habits.
To add to that, BobbyJet: It was 3v3 OT. Defense so far in 3v3 OT has been rather lacking overall for all teams. I'm not going to crucify him for it.
Still, the results we got in points would have been the same if we lost all in OT, won 1, lost 1 and lost 3 in OT, went 2-2-2, or won 4 and lost 2. IMHO the only "Better" outcome with the same points would have been the 4-2 just for the extra ROW. It could have been worse.
