Since it's the dog days of summer and there isn't much else to talk about, let's predict the goals / points for each Canes forward for next year. That way, we can look back at how poor our predictions were :sarcasm:

For reference, the Canes forwards had a combined 158 goals / 382 points last season of which 6 goals / 9 points came from guys that played ~20 games or less. The rest came from the 14 guys from Skinner down to Brad Malone. What say ye? Pick from:

Skinner
Rask
Staal
Lindholm
Stempniak
Teravainen
Nestrasil
Nordstrom
Aho
Bickell
McClemment
Stalberg
PDG

82 Game Pace:
Skinner 32g 25a 57p
Rask 24g 40a 64p
Staal 22g 27a 49p
Lindholm 14g 24a 38p
Stempniak 15g 22a 37p
Teravainen 12g 22a 34p
Nestrasil 14g 14a 28p
Nordstrom 9g 15a 24p
Aho 11g 18a 29p
Bickell 6g 7a 13p
McClemment 3g 11a 14p
Stalberg 7g 9a 16p

That makes 169.

Figure defense is good for 40'ish, so it'd be about 210 if everyone stays healthy. Less once the subs start subbing in for the top 9.

I have to think about total points, but goals prediction for 82G pace:

Skinner: 23
Rask: 22
Staal: 21
Lindholm: 21
Stempniak: 15
Aho: 15
Teravainen: 14
Nestrasil: 12
Nordstrom: 8
Stalberg: 8
PDG: 8
Bickell: 3
McClemment: 2

Total: 172, but not all of these guys will play 82 games as there are 13 on the list and also there will be injuries so the actual total will be less.

Skinner: 32g 30a 62p
Rask: 29g 34a 63p
Staal: 20g 30a 50p
Lindholm: 20g 25 a 45p
Stempniak: 16g 16a 32p
Teravainen: 15g 20a 35p
Nestrasil: 14g 18a 32p
Nordstrom: 5g 11a 16p
Aho: 13g 16a 29p
Bickell: 3g 5a 7p
McClemment: 2g 4a 6p
Stalberg: 5g 7a 12p
PDG: 8g 9a 18p

So if my math is correct that is 182 goals this season among the forwards. Which would be a 24 goal improvement from last season. A bit much to ask for? Maybe, but hey it's summer and I'm excited for the future of this team.

Wow, I'm all over the place with my thoughts on this. Here's my initial guess:

Skinner - 33g/34a
Rask - 24g/35a
Staal - 23g/36a
Lindholm - 23g/29a
Stempniak - 15g/23a
Teravainen - 15g/30a
Nestrasil - 11g/26a
Nordstrom - 14g/11a
Aho - 16g/31a
Bickell - 7g/17a
McClement - 2g/9a
Stalberg - 8g/13a
PDG - 4g/7a (spends most of the year in Charlotte)

Is that really 195 goals? Add in another 40 or so from the blueline and random Checkers and we'll be top 5 in GF. :amazed:

187 goals from the forwards.

Skinner to return to the ASG and Aho gets Calder consideration. We return to the playoffs as a #8 seed but lose in 5 to Tampa.

I really think Lindholm is going to have an improved year this season. I predicted 21 goals and think he's going to be between 20-25G and 45-50 points, if he stays healthy. I feel this way for a variety of reasons, even though my reasons are very speculative, at best. First, I think he's at an age when kids start to "get it" and realize they have to put the hard work in off-season. Roddy subtly calling him out last season was part of it and the video we implies he is taking it seriously.

Secondly, as a 19 and 20 year old, he was mainly put in a 1st line RW or 2nd line RW role and was over-matched IMO. I really think this year he's going to likely get more time at center and more time on the 3rd line with the likes of Aho and Teravainen and will gain some confidence.

Getting out of the gate is key. If he can just avoid the pretty much 0 for October (ok, I know he had 1 point in 11 games) and score at a pace like he did for the rest of the season, he'd be at about 45 points just from that alone.

I only see a few guys regressing this season, most of the team is trending upward. With that said I think we will see some growth from some of our guys which should help increase our scoring total. I put a plus, minus, or equal to each guy to whom I think will either take a step forward, stay the same, or regress.

Total: 189 Goals

Additional note: I think we are going to finish in the 10-15 range in total goals.

BBA, I'm right there with you on this. I also think that Lindy is the recipient of distribution largesse by both Aho and Teravainen. In fact as the season rolls on, I think Lindy keeps getting his and the two young Finns pick up the pace. Both Aho and Teravainen have great shots, but both are also known to be spectacular passers. My guess is both get PP time and rack up assist numbers there. I think Aho starts off moderately but Teravainen clicks with Lindy in particular. Lastly, I think there's a potential for Stempniak's numbers to be impressive, but again, I think more from an assist standpoint. I look for both Skinner and Rask to benefit from having him on their line.

To further put it into perspective, the Dallas Stars were the team that scored the most goals last year, and they got 233 from their forwards. The Caps were 2nd best team in terms of goal scoring and their forward only had 217.

228 from our forwards would mean the Canes would be one of the top goal scoring teams in the league.
