Last night should be a bucket of cold water on those tossing around names like Rempal and Clague.

It's the same cast plus Kovy and Brickley. Wagner always has a chance because of his skating but he'll still start in Ontario most likely.

Need vets to maintain, youth to progress and Kovy to work out. That's the recipe. There is no prospect savior. The only possible one needs a backeotomy.

I honestly have yet to see any NHL ability from Rempal. I'd be happy for someone to enlighten me as to what they think he brings over anyone else.

I was a big LaDue supporter for several years now. I was very impressed the first time I saw him in preseason and when he got called up during the Sutter era. I thought he was composed, good with the outlet passes, and great positionally. But I got to say, he is not standing out much the past two years. I don't know if its because the speed of the game changed, he is not physical enough etc. But I do know that Brickley and Fantenburg look better than LaDue. I am okay with starting the year off with Brickley sent down so that LaDue gets a shot with the team, but if can't win a regular spot within 20 games, I am okay with moving on with the LaDue experience and calling up Brickley. With respect to Fantenburg, I think his playoff performance was impressive, but with his body of work, I view him as a specialist defenseman that is handy to have as a 7th D. He is a good puck mover, and skate the puck out well, but is not very strong or physical. I can't see him playing 10+ minutes on a regular basis. He is a good fill in, and good to have as an option on the powerplay. I hope we keep him up as our 7th D for this season.

They said he's week-to-week. That's as good as it gets.

So, the problem is he really doesn't yet. He was -4 last night and looked like he earned every bit of it. But the problem is he isn't doing anything crazy/dynamic offensively to even make up for that. If he was this crazy offensive d-man like he was in juniors to at least be high even on both ends at least you'd have some sort of specialist to 'be entertaining' and put up points and maybe get used in a sheltered role, but the dude was getting shellacked no matter where he started on the rink, and didn't do anything offensively that our other d-men didn't/can't do.

The dreaded week to week bs. OOF.

Let's E5 this bad boy.

It is all just hope and then wanting the whipping boys off the roster.

Rempal for top six and sit Clifford!

Wagner for Clifford.
Rather have someone with Grit Speed and scoring touch rather than

Overpaid gritz, slow, scoring touch, and one fist to the face short of mashed potatoes. But some view Clifford as the prodigal son for whatever reason.

i have so much respect for what Fantenberg did for us in the playoffs last year that it sucks if he's not our #7D but ultimately i get it... i get it...

I get that. I had high hopes after that Game 2, but we never saw that fantenberg before, and looks like we'll never see it again.

Of course not much stock should be put into these games, given the mishmash of rosters and experimentation, but thus far through six preseason games, the Kings are 1-4-1. They've scored 18 goals and given up 26 goals.

Here are the preseason player stats thus far,
Los Angeles Kings Stats

Iafallo and Amadio lead the team in preseason scoring with 5 assists each, followed by Kale Clague and his 4 assists, with Carter leading the way with 3 goals, followed by Pearson, Toffoli, Etem and Phaneuf who each have 2 goals.

Just curious with what the thinking in the FO is now that Amadio has upped his game like he has at every level??
Is Kempe still our 3C? , Do they make him the 4C, or worst yet do they make him a spare part if CJS decides he needs more vets in the bottom 6??

with that said, I think if given the minutes Amadio puts up 35+pts, while Brinkley develops into another Muzzin for us. I've seen enough to say Iafallo can double his output and these kids will make 2-3 vets expendable...

The Kings still haven't replaced Jarret Stoll.

I get more Derek Armstrong vibes from Amadio, which actually isn’t a bad thing. Armstrong was just forced into a prime role due to injuries, but he was productive in his role. Amadio can be a productive #3 playmaker in the same vein as Armstrong, who got to center the likes of Luc, Klatt, Frolov, among others.

Would someone please educate me why right handed defenseman are so rare? Sorry for my ignorance.

Like a left handed pitcher in baseball. Those guys can throw junk and still be employed.

There are more left shots than rights shots in general in the NHL. Since being on your backhand when trying to exit your zone, or keep the puck in in the o-zone, is more difficult, you'd like to find right handed shots for the right side pf the ice, and left handed shots for the left side. With more left handed shots, more RHD defensemen become more valuable than they maybe should be. Just like left handed pitchers. There are more right handed people, so left handed pitching becomes a more specialized skill set. To play the percentages, you need a lefty pitcher vs a lefty batter.

Throwing a football, a baseball, shooting a basketball, writing, I'm all right handed. Never been able to do anything with a right handed hockey stick. I've seen it said that your dominant hand tends to be at the top of the stick, for better control of what you're doing. It can also simply be a comfort thing.

Many professional athletes start very young. Consequently, they get used to using their primary hand in holding sticks and bats differently.

I've heard that's why a lot of righties swing left.

It's actually *right-shooting* defenseman.

AIUI, so as not to be weak on the backhand, hockey players are taught at a very early age to play with the non-dominant hand being dominant. Therefore (theoretically), the players who shoot right are actually left-handed, whereas the players who shoot left are actually right-handed. That's why there is a huge discrepancy in numbers regarding defenseman who shoot right-handed as opposed to left-handed. Since fewer people are left-handed, that translates over into fewer NHL defenseman who shoot right-handed. In other words (again, this is all just theory and not necessarily indicative of each and every player), right-shooting NHL defenseman are more rare because there are less peeps in the world who are left-handed as opposed to right-handed.

Personally, I think it's a crock. I'm right-handed and once attempted to shoot left-handed. I could do it, but there was little to no power to my shots. If Martinez (for example) was to switch from shooting left to shooting right (I'm assuming, of course, that Martinez is right-handed), I'll bet he could score 15-20 goals each season, EASILY, backhand be damned. That's just IMHO......

You are rare my friend. Almost every hockey player I have ever played with or known plays with their dominant hand at the top of their stick.

I don't play hockey, but I'm right-handed and swing a hockey stick like a lefty (left hand at top of stick). But I'm an oddball - I also play pool, shoot a rifle, and hold a fishing rod like a lefty in each case. I'll donate my brain to science I guess.

I would assume most people here who grew up in California shoot with their dominant hand on the bottom of the stick because the guy working at the Van Nuys Sports Chalet in 1996 didn't know any better.

Isn't that how sticks are labeled in the stores though? 'Right' handed sticks are designed to have your left hand up top...?
