I guess the other side of the argument is that Antoine Roussel was one of the best players in the league in that hard minutes role last year, and he should be kept doing that because it's a more valuable player than playing 3rd fiddle on the 2nd line where obviously Spezza and Hemsky are going to be mostly working off eachother.
There's lots of players we could throw up there to collect loose points, there are hardly any that could effectively replace Roussel's useage in his own end.
Don't disagree, but the coach clearly sees the value in experimenting so it's a moot point.
I would disagree though about not having players ready to step into a defensive shutdown role. They have plenty ... more for sure than players who could consistently score. It's not even close.
The name of the game isn't to go find some random guy to follow Spezza and Hemsky around the ice. They should find a guy that can keep up with them and contribute. I don't see why in the world a checking winger position should stop the team from finding the best fit.
Personally I hope to see Roussel back with Eakin. It just seems silly to say he's irreplaceable on the 3rd line, but your 2nd line winger is insignificant.
