These are the players selected in the 2003 NHL Draft who do not have NHL contracts. As of June 1, 2005, they would have become Unrestricted Free Agents had they not come to terms with their NHL clubs to NHL contracts. But with the CBA lockout put in place by the NHL and it's owners, these players cannot sign NHL contracts until the lockout is resolved. There have been reports that some of these players may take legal action and force their Unrestricted Free Agency if the lockout is not resolved by June 1, 2005.

All players from the 2003 draft must be 20 years old by the June 1, 2005 deadline to be eligible for Free Agency, the others would re-enter the draft.

well, management love Marjamaki, so I don't suppose they would let him go. They would probably have the P-Bruins try to give him a contract. Same with Mike Brown.

The NHL has already stated that they wouldn't let teams lose their drafted players if the CBA wasn't renewed by the time they were FAs.

It's not the NHL's decision.

If there's no CBA in place by June 1, these players have the legal right to become UFA's since they were drafted under the old CBA. Yes, fans that are at risk of losing high talent will say Bettman will save these teams from losing their prospects, but he'll probably have to duke it out in the legal system to keep his apparent promise to these owners.

There's no reason to believe some of these player agents won't demand Unrestricted Free Agency, claiming the owners and organizations are responsible for the loss of time to sign these players (due to the lockout), and they want their clients to become what they're owed, UFA.

The Leaf's fan don't believe that, they believe that they will be getting Richards, Carter, Fehr, Seabrooke, ect.

I know you're smarter than that... for the most part you have intelligent things to contribute, don't start with that.

I'd love to see one of O'Sullivan/Carter/Richards/Fehr/Seabrooke/Belle in Toronto...

I think 99% of fans on these boards would like to see their team go after someone if these guys are declared UFA's... but some just feel the need to rip Leaf fans for actually saying it.

My source is the TSN database, it doesn't say he signed with the Islanders... it just says he was assigned to the Sound Tigers. Is it possible he signed a contract with just Bridgeport?

Nevermind Lala, found this...

Yeah :)

I remember him signing with the Isles but I was second guessing myself because he could have signed a deal with the AHL club.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I would have never known they signed him... they did it really soon. He must have blown the Isles away in camp.

If they do become FA Carter would probably get the max on the market. It will probably go down to what his role will be right off the start.

Also Jonathan Tremblay, San Jose 7th was just called up to the AHL. He has been playing ECHL all year. Not sure if SJ signed him or he signed a 2 way (AHL/ECHL) deal.

Same with Thomas Bellemare, CGY, he is playing minor pro as well.

I know, I checked each players age, where they're playing, and contract status.

Not sure if some of these ECHL/AHL guys are signed or not.

I think you can add Kyle Quincey (Det) to the List.

I wish he was signed, but he isn't.
He was born August 15th, so that means he re-enters the draft. Atleast I'm pretty sure that's what it means.
