Gurriel has an OPS almost 200 points higher than Grichuk over the past 2 months but Grichuk continues to get more playing time.

Also this Valera over Espinal (and Smith) thing is freaking bizarre.

Honestly, as soon as Valera had that RBI groundout, I thought "Ugh, now Montoyo is gonna love him and Smith won't get a chance the rest of the year." It didn't occur to me he would start over Espinal again today.

Valera’s a switch bat, and Mejia has been very bad against lefties so far this season. It’s pretty easy to see why he’s in the lineup.

If only their ERA was 3.60 and i could pull this gem out.

So what was the excuse yesterday, when Plesac had better numbers against left-handed batting?

There’s plenty of indefensible moves Montoyo makes. I’m simply acknowledging one that has some logic to it.

If Espinal had played last night ... whatever.

It's the benching of Espinal in back-to-back games when he's been absolutely raking to play a 30 y/o journeyman (who is defensively inferior) that has people baffled.

Taijuan Walker has unfortunately fallen off.

In his last 4 starts of 15 innings;

20 ERs
7 HRs
10 BBs
12 Ks
12.00 ERA
-0.6 fWAR

His last 11 starts haven’t been good either;

56 Innings
35 ERs
9 HRs
21 BBs
52 Ks
5.63 ERA
0.1 fWAR

First 9 starts;

49 Innings
10 ERs
1 HRs
19 BBs
49 Ks
1.84 ERA
1.5 fWAR

K/BB% is identical but his good luck caught up to him.

Walker would have been nice to have at the start of the season but if he keeps it up then the Jays may not have use as our current starters are;

Fangraphs WAR;

Berrios: 2.5 fWAR
Ryu: 2.0 fWAR
Ray: 1.9 fWAR
Walker 1.6 fWAR
Matz: 1.2 fWAR
Manoah: 0.6 fWAR
Stripling: 0.1 fWAR

Baseball Reference bWAR;

Ray: 3.8 bWAR
Ryu: 2.8 bWAR
Berrios: 2.2 bWAR
Manoah: 1.4 bWAR
Stripling 0.7 bWAR
Matz: 0.6 bWAR
Walker: 0.5 bWAR
Fallen off what ?
He was always shite.:rolleyes:

Report: 'Everyone Was Asking' For Orelvis Martinez at Trade Deadline
"Everyone was asking" Toronto for infield prospect Orelvis Martinez, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported, but the Blue Jays decided to hold on to the 19-year-old Dominican.

"The Blue Jays still believe he can stick at shortstop due to his fluid and efficient defensive motions," MLB.com's scouting report reads. "He’ll continue to see time at third base, too, where his plus arm is fully capable of making the throw across the diamond."

He was always shite.:rolleyes:

He had an all-star caliber start to this season, albeit with the caveat that there were a bajillion red flags that screamed "this probably isn't sustainable and he's going to go full pumpkin sooner or later" the whole time.

Seems like a depth replacement for the departed Riley Adams. He's 29 and has never been out of the minors, only had the last two actual seasons (2019 and this year) at AAA where he's been offensively poor.

Still likely get some people calling for him to get a shot because he's Canadian and has 1st round pedigree.

I may have missed the discussion in the Orelvis-promotion talk, but Otto Lopez was moved up to Buffalo. I noticed he wasn't in the lineup for NH the last couple days and assumed injury. He's playing 2B for the Bisons tonight.

Why is Ross Stripling getting the start tomorrow? I thought he was out of the rotation after the Berrios acquisiton

Is someone on the DL?

Ryu
Berrios
Ray
Manoah
Matz

Isnt that our 5?

They are using a 6 man rotation with the double headers coming up

6-man rotation right now. Plus Stripling is probably more deserving of staying in the rotation vs Matz.
