Thing I find with drafting the team goalie is that you are guaranteed points whereas if you have to try compensate with your back up and / or your other players it forces you to pick more wisely and also wheel and deal in the trade market / waiver wire. In other words, you have to do some work

In some ways, that's kind of why I like the scoring categories to reflect heavily in favor of position players. It doesn't make sense to me that there'd be, say, 5 player categories and 5 goalie categories, when a roster will probably have at least 10+ position players and only 2 goalies.

I remember an old league I was in with friends and I dominated for 4 years by loading up with goalies and guaranteeing at least a 5-5 split most weeks. It was a 10 team league with 3 starting goalies so I made sure to grab 4 great to good starters because the talent pool with the skaters was very plentiful with only 10 teams. Forced a bunch if teams to start a backup or two every week.

I find I end up taking goalies too early to avoid a situation where there's a run on goalies *right* after I pick, and I don't get another pick for like 12 turns.
