I know we have a couple threads on him, but I like having a definitive poll so here it is.

I vote in favour.

Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Vanek-Eller-xxx
Bourque-Plekanec-Briere
Prust-Bournival-Weise
Moen-White

the xxx is whoever you can get for Desharnais

Edit: **** I meant to include a poll...there are a few broken things about this board, not having separate buttons for 'submit thread' and 'submit poll' is one. as is not being able to delete a post or add a poll afterwards. hopefully a mod can add one or something :help:

Why not just leave Desharnais on the wing with Vanek?

Vanek said he loved playing with Desharnais and Eller.. best of both worlds.

Irrelevant thread.

No way in hell Vanek wants to play in Montreal ever again (based on his comments) except for the visiting team when they travel to the Bell Centre.

Therrien set that bridge on fire and that bridge is burned beyond recognition.

Who would want him long term after just witnessing what he can do in the playoffs first hand?

You offer no matter what. He either slumps and you trade him for a great young player or he plays well and you're happy. With the right coach vanek would be awesome but ours is soooo ****ing thick skulled

I'd like to have Vanek back. But it always depends on the price tag and length of course, and what we intend to do with our free cap space if we don't sign him. There are a lot of variables at play here.

But then again I was not in the locker room and I have no idea how he was as a teammate. That said, Pacioretty and Briere both said they would like to have him back so two guys who were in the room with him who think he was a great asset.

Our record before and after he joined speak for itself.

I just think Vanek shouldn't have played with Briere/Plekanec. He was a poor fit with them and looked better with DD/Eller.

I'm all for having Malkin, Toews, Tavares at 7M over Vanek but only one of those 4 players is available and it's Vanek. We need some star power up front. We simply do not have enough talent up front if Vanek leaves.

I think Vanek's "excuse" of not finding chemistry after moving off the DD line is a legit reason for him having trouble in the playoffs.

I have no issues with us re-signing him to 7x7 contract as long as there isn't a full NMC.

We have cap space and there are few UFAs this year that I see as good as Vanek. I guarantee that he would be better in the playoffs if it wasn't a year in which he played with no less than 5 different sets of players on 3 different teams.

I'd vote NO on bringing back Vanek. I think his demands will be too high given age and PO performances.

But IF he were to come back, your line-up is not bad but I think I'd prefer something along the lines of :

Patch-DD-*new-big-winger acquired for Plek+pick and/or Tinordi or something
Vanek-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Bourque-Eller-Weise

Plek is gonna be 32 next yr, he's slowly becoming a PK specialist and at 5 mill, that's pretty pricy for 20 goals and a shy playoff performer.

But honestly, at 30 and already slow enough as is, I don't think I could stomach the kind of deal Vanek is gonna command. Better off looking elsewhere me thinks

Want him at 5 years @ 6-7mil max. Over in term or money is a deal breaker. (Even then 7 mil is pretty high for what we've seen of him)

Yes, we should take him back. Our biggest need is a big scoring winger. He and Max would be arguably the best 1,2 LW combo in the league. We'd have two lines with a legit top scoring threat on it.

Vanek had a crappy 2nd half to the playoffs but he was still one of our highest scoring forwards. He'd be a big piece for us going forward. I don't think he likes MT though and I don't think he'll re-sign. And that will suck for us because for all the reactionary "he sucks" posts coming out now, he's still a good hockey player and we could use him.

I think people are too quick feed him to the wolves... I would like him back. They need to get him settled on a line is all. And be able to deal with the cold spells that most stars succumb to.

I'm gonna vote No if the poll ever comes up

Signing Vanek long term is shooting ourselves in the foot. We did fine before him and we will after.

Not happy at all with his playoff performance. He didn't produce much and he didn't even put effort into it. Whenever he didn't have the puck he was nowhere to be seen nor did he win his board battles.

But in this era it is hard to find someone of his talent without giving more than we can afford, unless we go to drafting but with the team's situation, we are done waiting, we need to make the moves.

We can not afford to let someone of his talent go like that, we must at least try to keep him and offer him a contract. His playoff performance will lower our bid for his next contract and if he doesn't take it, that's fine.

For those posters who say yes... are you willing to sign him to a 7 x $7.5-8M contract because that's what he's likely to get from some team.

For me its a no at anything over 6 x $6.5M... guys talented but doesn't have the heart to deserve more IMO.

It's been pretty much consensus that the way to keep him in MTL would be to offer term (8 yr) at something like 7.5 mil per. So, ~ 60 million for a 2nd line winger who's a no show in the playoffs.... yep, that seems about in line with recent Habs signings. Of course, the cap space will need to be made up by lowballing a first line D Norris winner.

Does anyone know if a poll can be added after a thread is started? If not then...this thread is a bit of a failure. haha
