My prediction was honestly a joke if you saw my comment too. haha

I'm pleased with Cooley. Wish he went to Tucson or another year of college, but it's whatever at this point. Excited to see him next year.

I feel like I'm happier watching him actually play than I am looking at the stat sheet. And yeah, we were awful in February. Think he can surge and get to 40?

Key is helping him grow his game and improve, not letting his first season be his best like Domi and Duclair.

My prediction was more like “we are the Yotes and can’t have super elite players” I actually thought he would get higher than I voted, but wasn’t the case… so far

That's fair logic! haha Unfortunately my predictions for Cooley and for Yotes pts in the season are looking pretty spot on. I'd have loved to be wrong but is what it is, still too early for much of a turn around.

Much like some of us who see more good in the Coyotes play than their record indicates and don't believe points is a good way to evaluate this team's progress this season.....

I'd say the same for Cooley..... he was going to go back to Minnesota and I think most who predicted anything more than 40 points were unrealistic expectations....and might more accurately reflect his totals if we could fast forward a year as if he had played another year of College.

While I do wish we'd see more multi-point games and highlight reel goals from him....I'm super impressed by his skating/stick handling....but he's still figuring out how to translate that to getting the puck into the back of the net. That is on the way though and I'd expect it to start happening shortly and definitely next season. I'd be very curious how this season's predictions will be to his totals next season.

Very positive developments this season are his chemistry with Guenther, his 200 foot play (his mistakes seem to be decreasing too), and he seems to have no issues with the "grind" of a full NHL season and all it entails.

Who expected Cooley and Guenther to team up on a short handed goal AND an OT game winner this season? If you've been around awhile you'll know the concept of two highly touted rookies playing on the same line is a foreign concept to us.

I'll add that I'm very impressed with his board work, given size and age.

Well said. Very pleased with how they are developing him as a complete player.

Cooley had nothing to learn in College. BA himself said that at the beginning of the year. Armstrong said that being able to join this year gives Cooley some wiggle room as far as learning on the job. We were thin at C planning to shelter him this year with a potential breakout. All these benefits could potentially not be there the following year. Cooley lit up college hockey and the world juniors. He really didn’t need to do that again. I’m happy with his development so far.

Cooley is 3 goals away from 20. The Yotes have a good chance at having six twenty goal scorers this year. When has that ever happened?

Never.

Not even 5, much less 6.

Worth mentioning too...Dylan Guenther in 37gp has 12 goals so he is on 20g+ pace.

All very encouraging, yes. BUT I sure as hell hope folks take into account that setbacks will happen with these kids and refrain from bitching up a storm when that happens. Look no further than Keller's three seasons after his rookie year, the advantage these kids should have is better players around them to minimize the setbacks, but those better players, will most all also be kids.

The thing about Colley's play that I love: When we were mired in the crap of Feb, the guy appeared to decide he was going to lead by example. Several times in that timeframe I saw him put his head down, take the puck to the net and get waxed by bigger D men. It was like he was not taking the losses laying down, and he was challenging the others to quit feeling sorry for themselves and TRY. Real effing leadership material in my eyes. Love it.

No Tocchet. Keller got worse the longer they were together.

Agreed. That stretch is what me decide our next captain either is a rookie or wasn't on the team. All of the young "core" players that would be candidates (mostly Keller and Crouse) didn't do a damn thing to pull us out of that slump.

One thing I noticed is that Cooley has a lot of primary assists and only a few secondary assists

On even strength:

12 goals 10 primary assists and only 2 secondary assists

On powerplay:

3 goals 6 primary assists and only 3 secondary assists

I don't know how much more you can value primary assists vs secondary assists, but atleast Cooley hasn't feasted on "free" secondary points and i think that he easily could have 5-10 more points.

Shame selfish and stupid didn’t work for him/them/us. Seriously, he over did that. Very rare You’re gonna pull that off in the show.

They stayed the course. The last thing you want is maverick individualism.

It’s all gotta start somewhere, absolutely nothing wrong with secondary assists.

I didn't mean to devalue secondary assists, but some of them are just more luck depentent than primary assists. My point was that if Cooley had a few more secondary assists upping his point total to 45ish, he would have amazing point total for a teenager rookie
