Pastrnak

He's the better player and has historically outperformed Point in the playoffs (with the exception of 2020)
That's not really true is it.

Point 67 games played 1.09 ppg
Pastrnak 63 games played 1.08 ppg

To say one is clearly better than the other in the playoffs is just flat out wrong. The biggest difference is in goals (Point's 36 vs Pastrnak's 27)

They are both great playoff performers, edge to Point for better goal totals.

Regular season is clearly Pastrnak though. Point had that 92pt season in 18/19, but that's looking like a fluke considering he has never even hit 70pts in any other season and has been below PPG in 4/5 seasons. Never finished even top 20 in hart, only notable finishes are 1x top 10 in goals and GPG (6th and 10th in 18/19). By comparison, Pastrnak has hit 95pts, 81pts and 80pts. 4th in hart, 1st AST, 2x top 10 goals (1st, 10th), 1x top 10 pts (3rd), 2x top 10 GPG (3rd, 4th) and 2x top 10 PPG (4th, 7th). They both play with great players so that's no argument for either guy. If anything it's an argument against Point because we've seen his totals plummet without Kucherov.

Answer is Pastrnak.

Yet we know Pastrnak is the better goal scorer, which leads us to question the sample size and other variables such as quality of team and opponent.

If a team wants to build around a position of strength (C or D) I understand preferring Point.

In my mind Pastrnak is the more dynamic talent, especially when healthy. Point would be the ideal 1B center in my mind long term to replace Krejci rather than Bergeron on the Bruins.

But Pasta plays with Bergeron and Marchand, if Marchand went down I imagine his point & goal totals would take a hit.
