But they had some management experience before stepping into the GM role.

Alfredsson has had some expeirence too, not to mention he was an NHLPA leader as well as the leader of an organization as a player. and obviously knows hockey at a deep level.

he will have people to do the paper work, he just needs to make hockey decisions.

Yeah but with Alfie, firing slappers at opposing GMs is a powerful negotiation tactic
What's currently the penalty for something like this, 3rd round pick or do we need to acquire a few firsts to be able for proper punishment?

Just like Dorion had people do the paper work, he just needed to make the hockey/scouting decisions?

Look at where that got us...

In a lot of ways, he stumbled in to the team we have today. I won't pretend the squad doesn't have a lot of promise, but it could have been so much more.
Stumbled? He built it from the ground up. There hasn't been a single player from before Dorion in a long time.

Scorched earth rebuild leads to many good pieces. Some of what happened is entirely his doing while much of it is just time playing out. It could have been so much more had he not made so many unforced errors. Like I said, the team holds promise, he did some good things, but overall I'm not impressed with his body of work.

Gonna go ahead and suggest that Alfie has forgotten more about hockey than Dorion will ever know.

Well, he was pretty fortunate that SJ utterly collapsed to get us Stützle.

His trade of Turris for Duchene was a bit of a disaster costing us a high 1st (eventually). It's quite possible without that trade we wouldn't have had the initial collapse and wouldn't have drafted Tkachuk

That's just two examples where things worked out pretty well, just arguably not exactly in the way Dorion was initially hoping for.
