from the interview yesterday it sounds like 6 on 6 OTP for NHL teams will get patched in but any type of custom player is very far down the road.

I highly doubt it, and even when they will introduce OTP, it won't be with friends.
Those will be drop-in games with random dekeing d-bags, not with friends.
