After 82 games of dealing with reporters and drinking, I'd be kicking back at the cottage or on a golf course somewhere, no questions asked.

I've seen a ton of guys in Southern Ontario and in Calgary as well. I've seen Stajan at the grocery store, Glencross at the Apple store with his wife and kid, Mike Green with a buddy.

Players are night and day when it comes to during the season and the offseason. Especially shortly after their season is complete and they know they have time to cut loose.

Plenty of the players I know tend to workout for at least 2-3 hours daily in the offseasons (gym) with not much on ice workouts. But really enjoy their weekends. Meaning that they do stay professional by maintaining themselves, but they certainly enjoy their time away from the game!

On a side note; Weddings and jack n jills always seem to happen at least once per offseason and those are always the good stories!

Dear friends. A word of advice. It's really hard being a recognized athlete when people are always turning and looking, meeting you in the bathroom, asking for autographs, screaming your name in the Bellagio, or bugging Luke Schenn when he's picking up chicks. (Yea, whatever buddy).

When you see these guys when they are on their own time, leave them the hell alone.

Funny you bring up Hall lol, i live in Kingston and was at Stages and saw him trying to pick up a few girls, his pick up line was something like " Hey baby you know who I am, the girl laughed and said no **** off creep. So Hall turned to the next girl and tried the same thing... soooo funny. Also I have met Tie Domi when I was younger. One of my moms friends was his hair dresser. He was my favourite player until that day, he is a complete *********.

Small world eh I'm in Kingston as well in Waterloo Village. Halls a loser, apparantly word around town is he went to stages (seems to be his favourite spot), he mouthed off to a bouncer and he got knocked out.

I used to live in Markham and I ran into Steve Thomas in 95' at a summer fair. I knew who he was but I asked him if I should call him "Mr Thomas" or "Steve" and he was like "just call me Steve". Very nice and down to earth guy, I even have a picture that he autographed as well.

Also Wayne Gretzky owns 1/3 of a 3km Island near my Dad's house up in the Muskokas. Gretzky doesn't have a cottage on the island, but he uses it for investment purposes, I don't think the guy goes there too often though.

Come to think of it there are a ton of celebs on Lake of Bays- Shania Twain has a massive mansion off Haystack Bay and she is there every summer. I ran into her once when I worked at a local resturant in Dorset, she was quite the diva and didn't want to wait in line so she hoffed off and drove away. Pamela Anderson also owns her own small island, it's a modest size but very reclusive, I don't think she's been there though since she and Kid Rock split years ago. Another celeb that has a mansion on the lake is the CEO of Telus, it's a sprawling 3 floor mansion on top of a huge cliff.

Oh I just forgot this one- Weiss used to live up the street from me, anyways he was friends with my sister who was a tween at the time. Anyways this was first when he was drafted by the Panthers, he drove down in his souped up car and asked her (my sister) out on a date, she laughed and turned him down because he was 19 and she was 12 at the time.

My neighbour on my old street in Markham went to highschool with Stamkos (Brother Andre) and they were good friends and they slept together a few times. Anyways heres a few juicy tidbits: Apparantly he told her he never wanted to be drafted by Tamapa and that he wanted to be Leaf. Also the guy loves to party, he rented out 1/2 of Unionville Arms and would invite all his friends down and he would buy them all rounds of drinks interestingly though whenever he would do this he wouldn't drink any booze.

How often do you guys see NHL players in the offseason, and how often is it when they are actually 'working out'? It seems like everytime I see these guys there either a)out partying at 5am, b) at steakhouses, or c) signing autographs.

Strangely enough, I ran into Phil Kessel at the Bellagio in Vegas yesterday. No..no..he wasn't sleeping. I was even shocked he wasnt. In typical Phil Kessel fashion though, when I yelled 'Phil Kessel!', he looked over with no emotion, nodded and said 1/2 a 'hey'. More words than I was expecting from him!

Few months ago I saw Dan Carcillo in a steakhouse in Chicago eating the biggest fudge sundae I've ever seen. Tried to get a picture, but the lighting wasn't great. But Dan's hurt...put the pounds on

Phil gets this bad wrap about not being social.. bla blah.. I was in Bahamas last May with a huge group for a wedding and Phil was there too as he treated his grandparents for a week at the Atlantis for thier 50th Anniversary. I played "Let it Ride" a few times with him in the Casino and talked a lot of Hockey with him (more about college in states). He even came over to meet my wife & son who was only 1 1/2 at the time. A few days later I walked in Casino and he was playing Craps with a large group of the people I was down with & he remembered me. We were actually mocking him cause he had no idea what he was doing and he was having a good laugh. We took a few pics with him but he wasn't even recognized down there outside of our GTA group. He was just a young normal dude having a good time. His GF btw is 11 out of 10. He even hit the bar with some of the others to catch the Canucks game.

Looking for a first line center?(was RNH drafted yet? lol)

this cracked me up hahahaha
in 84 a large group of Oiler players were at a Hotel restaurant for brunch and I got to meet them as a 5 yr old. They got a kick out of the fact that once I saw Gretz wasn't there I could care less about being there lol, but in hind sight Messier, Kurri, Tikanen and Fuhr etc were all there. I have a coaster somewhere at my parents place with their autographs.

It's all a part of being a "celebrity". there's nothing wrong with trying to talk to another human being, but thanks for the advice coach.

Well they aren't exactly celebrities, they're athletes. They don't 'sell' their product like movie actors or musicians, they go out there and play their respective sports. Sure there's nothing wrong with trying to talk to another human being but if a person is obviously being private or spending time with their family and friends, you don't think it's a bit excessive to go pester them for an autograph?

I've come across a bunch of players in my time.

I usually just act like a human being and not yell at them when they are just trying to live their life.

I ran into Nikolai Kulemin twice in the past few months, the first time he was Christmas shopping with his father at Sherway Gardens a few hours before a home game, and the second time was at the last home game vs. Tampa Bay. Halfway through the game, he came and sat in the row below me with his son. His broken finger was all bandaged up but I noticed the whole time he was squeezing a stress ball with that hand.

Also have seen Sam Gagner and Jason Spezza at the University of Toronto Mississauga Campus Gym. Spezza was on the treadmill and Gagner was at the membership counter. (So either extending or cancelling his membership)

So all three that I've run into were either working out/rehabbing. ;)

When they are in the role of "athlete" it is fine. Whjen they are not, it's fine to be pleasant and ackowledge, but to yell out their name and make a fuss makes you look like an idiot.

I used to go to a shoeless joes in Barrie that was owned by Ric Jackman. It was near the end of his Leaf run, he would be drinking in there a lot. He was kind of a dick to the staff.

Brad Marsh and Gary Leeman would booze at another bar down the road. Fitzy's Southside I think it was called.
