It's valid to point out that Stamkos could make a lot of money in sponsorships in Canada, some of which would be with the Leafs current partners. That's just good business for all parties.

But any implicit sponsorship offer tied to a contract would land them in a world of hurt.

I wouldn't call it a scoop as much as I would say he is speculating with possible inside info.

And this would involve people from outside the Leafs. Rogers, agents, etc..

It would be hard to cover up. If the Leafs attempted this it would be playing with fire.

But who knows. The league may look the other way.

Leafs would definitely be playing with fire. Although Canadian Tire is kind of it's own entity - they already pay Toews as well and Tim Hortons is with Crosby/Nate...
