I think Rundblad's numbers are deceiving though. He still has time to become an elite player in the NHL. I am very glad to see we are tracking his progress in relation to the Turris trade., because it will be interesting to watch it all unfold over the course of the next few years. Although Turris is clearly one of our three best players this season, and possibly the best, an argument can be made that Phoenix still wins this trade.
Sure, an argument can be made.
But it's difficult for Rundblad to improve while being on the shelf for an entire season, playing one in 4 games. Meanwhile, they don't want to send him down because he'll have to pass through waivers, so he's not playing anywhere, and he's been bypassed by other defencemen in their system in the depth chart. (as indicated in the above article)
If anything, his development will stagnate as he waits for his fate.
Meanwhile, our player is playing every game, and has emerged as the current primary offensive catalyst of the team after a single season's worth of games for Ottawa and two noteworthy playoff performances.
Obviously it's hard to imagine that argument being made on the basis of any kind of existing statistical evidence.
Not to mention, they are only a year apart in age.
Time will tell, but I'm reasonably confident.
