Yeah!!! Just give Geno whatever he wants!!! 5 years x $10M per? Sure, why not!! Who cares about trying to be competitive and ice a deep and balanced roster when you can pay a guy more than he’s worth based on, ya know, nothing!! And who cares if the Pens don’t win a round or miss the playoffs altogether — as long as Geno’s ego is satisfied!!

One thing I will always remember about Rakell is when as a 22 year old, NHL.com ranked him as the best 30th overall pick in NHL history because of how bad the other options were after around 15 years since the last expansion at the time.
His competition at the time was Jim Slater, Simon Despres and David Steckel

If anything this should encourage Geno to come back, since it means he won't be stuck carrying Kapanen and Zucker's broken shell.

I expected 4.5 for 4 years but slight overpay is OK as Letang, Rust and Rakell in year 3 the cap is up 3 to 4 million from here and the hit is not as dear. Rakell will give the Pens a top line that is really good and a couple moves and Pens are in good shape.
