Don't really get this (like a lot of what JR does). He was only with the pens for a little while so there's no real history there, he was benched in the playoffs, and pens already have a bunch of 4th liners.

McCann is hardly vanilla. Tanev is hardly vanilla. Blueger has played well enough to merit a bigger role. Lafferty has shown signs of being a difference maker in the bottom 6, deserves a chance to show it. Scevior is maybe vanilla, but FLA seemed to like him so I'll wait and see. The only truely vanilla player is Rodrigues, and he may/may not end up as the 13th F, especially if Poulin makes the team. A vanilla 13F that can jump into the lineup and not seem out of place is just fine.

Toronto has a pretty deep forward group, maybe that's why he'd rather try his luck with us. Not a big loss though, he's a decent 13th forward and nothing more.
