I always found it funny how much criticism Reimer got for our shootout woes last year. He was mediocre in shootouts...i was our shooters who sucked.

12-13 Shootouts:

Team Shooting Percentage

26. DET 21.7
27. NJD 20.7
28. TBL 20.0
29. CAL 18.2
30. TOR 12.5

Team Save Percentage

16. DET .636
17. TOR .625
18. CHI .625
19. OTT .625
20. CAR .600

Goalies who participated in more than 2 shootouts:

1. Holtby .889 (3)
2. Bishop .842 (4)
3. Lundqvist .760 (7)
4. Fleury .750 (3)
5. Miller .742 (10)
6. Bobrovsky .731 (9)
7. Rask .731 (6)
8. Niemi .727 (12)
9. Price .727 (3)
10. Pavelec .714 (5)
11. Lehtonen .700 (3)
12. Hiller .700 (3)
13. Nabokov .684 (7)
14. Schneider .667 (6)
15. Fasth .650 (6)
16. Luongo .643 (5)
17. Elliott .632 (5)
18. Reimer .625 (5)
19. Hedberg .625 (5)
20. Crawford .588 (9)
21. Howard .579 (6)
22. Smith 565 (8)
23. Rinne .563 (8)
24. Quick .526 (5)
25. Backstrom .467 (6)
26. Dubnyk .455 (4)
27. Brodeur .455 (4)
28. Bryzgalov .444 (3)
29. Lehner .400 (3)

XX. Bernier .000 (1)

Reimer wasn't great in the shootouts last year, but he wasn't bad.

It was our shooters who were embarassingly bad.

Just to set the record straight on this one.... Bernier wasn't ready a few years ago and neither was our Defense. Our Defense was so poor that Lombardi said he thought it best to send Bernier back down because one of the worst things to do to a young goalie is to play him when your D can't clear a beach ball. It would have ruined Bernier because he was too young, too inexperienced and would have had no help. So Lombardi started working on D first and pulled players in. Our team went of a offensive team to a defensive team. Quick sort of popped up out of nowhere and started stealing games. We initially thought that Quick was going to be a stop gap until Bernier was ready and man did Quick just play his heart out. In the meantime, Bernier was down to the minors, working on his game paying his dues and he came back up as a 1A. We never really looked at him as a full back up because he was supposed to be the chosen one historically. The last few seasons, he has been NHL ready.

Quick gained playoff experience against SJ when we got killed after Kopi busted a leg. When in doubt in playoffs, you go with who has played more playoff games. the next year, Quick got the nod and the rest was history. It has more to do with timing and how our organization developed than just pitting one goalie against another for the starter role. It wasn't Quick Vs Bernier...it was just how the story panned out.

I really appreciate it when fans of another team discuss hockey in a mature way. Thank you for this helpful explanation of the evolution of your goalie situation and how it came to impact the Leafs. Good luck to your Kings this year.

Are you going to be beating this drum all season or is this just a temporary phase?

You keep saying you want nothing more than for Bernier to take the #1 role but you're hellbent on painting him negatively or sticking up for Reimer in EVERY THREAD.

Please answer truthfully so I can make the decision on whether to ignore you or not. Because this has gotten ridiculous now.

Maybe he thinks April will take notice and give him a present

Reimer is better than Price. If we weren't all playoff nerves in game 1, we win that series. Reimer had nerves of steel to comeback against Boston like that, Price would have withered and folded.

oh...my...:dunno: lawl!!!! best comments of the week...and i bet you believe it too!

Price is really overrated in EA

I think that's the reason people consider him a top 5 goalie. His hype

It's really surprising how many people consider Price a lock for Team Canada.

Of the 26 goalies with > 20 playoff starts since '07, Price has 5th-worst sv% & 2nd-worst GAA

SV%
26. Bryzgalov (0.896)
25. Nabokov (0.901)
24. Fleury (0.903)
23. Emery (0.904)
22. Price (0.905)
21. Boucher (0.907)
20. Biron (0.908)

GAA
26. Bryzgalov (3.38)
25. Price (2.90)
24. Biron (2.87)
23. Fleury (2.73)
22. Boucher (2.72)
21. Niemi (2.65)
20. Nabokov (2.61)

I thought Team Canada wanted someone who can come through in the clutch?

That's not exactly the same as having to face the best hockey players that each nation has to offer that have also matured and gained experience since the time they were playing junior hockey. That kind of accomplishment is irrelevant to the discussion. It's about what the goalies contribute now. Price, like many of other of the goalie options has the ability to be lights out but hasn't proved that he can be clutch when he really needs to be. Maybe he can be, but again, the point is that he hasn't proven it yet. I think Price has the best skill level and technique of the goalie candidates but like all the others, he's not consistent and that is exactly why Canadian fans are very worried about the goalie position in general. It's not going to matter who gets the spot, there will be people that will doubt that the goalie will be able to get it done.

Think that team Canada is smart enough to not just look at the numbers out rather also the situation, Price playoff numbers are not impressive because you was Putin their as a 20-21 year old in the playoffs. His playoff SV% in his last two playoffs is ~.920+, includes outplaying Tim Thomas in a 7 game series even tho the bruins won the series.

well its more that ppl expect more of him, since gm and other keep saying is the best around the league....only 1 other active goalie in the league played over 300 games under 25 and that fleury....MTl market is very hard on goalkeeper ..he had a beast season last season until the last 2 weeks...i think this year at 26 we are gonna see what price is made of...hes entering is prime so lets see.

I would think Bernier should be better than Price, he had the psyche of a marshmallow and probably still does. Anybody remember him crying on hockey night in Canada several seasons ago after a loss to the Leafs? Bernier as a backup was already better than Price, this is hardly news.
