Phenomenal in anything he was in from drama to comedy. Lieutenant Bookman was the best one-off character in Seinfeld history. He stole that episode and bounced off whoever he was working with perfectly. Had a great single episode of The West Wing too, and great voice work in BoJack as Hank Hippopopalous too.

Not Bookman!

Bookman? The library investigator's name is actually, Bookman? That's amazing. That's like an ice cream man named, Cone.

I loved his role in Boogie Nights. I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass and lollipops in my mouth. That's just me. That's just something that I enjoy.

Great character actor. Library cop episode was my all-time fav on Seinfeld. Watch it every once in a while for a good laugh.

I re-watched his Seinfeld episode last holidays and Googled him, thrilled to see he was still alive. I also remember his dramatic roles in those Paul Thomas Anderson films. Helluva talent and career. But his Bookman role was iconic! RIP

His role as Bookman was definitely iconic. Best one off appearance in the history of television. His rant in Jerry's apartment was legendary. Great in the PTA films too. RIP

Oh no, just found out about this. Bookman is one of the greatest TV characters ever.

He was also great in a couple of episodes of Modern Family.

He was not the Colonel. He was Floyd Gondoli.

Colonel went to prison for kiddie porn...Jack had to start working with Floyd to keep his career alive.
Whoops, I had thought the actor who had played The Colonel passed awhile ago, this clears up the confusion. Floyd Gondoli was a great character too, not as funny as The Colonel who got his comeuppance in prison. "Time for your bible lesson, Colonel!"

Thanks.

I am surprised nobody mentioned Secret Honor. As a one-man movie, that is his greatest performance.

Never heard of it until you posted this. I looked it up on IMDB, & I see it's one man recreation of Nixon trying to clear himself of any wrongdoing from Watergate. Seems like not too many people saw it & that's too bad if you say PBH gave a great performance. IMDB trivia basically states it launched his career...which is a very good thing.

Bottom line is Nixon was a GIANT POS & any film trying to sanitize his involvement with Watergate or trying to paint him in a sympathetic light was NEVER going to be successful in the 80s, or any decade honestly, for obvious reasons. Being the history buff I am, I will seek it out & watch it on you suggestion however.
