hahah yeah, how else would we lure american players into our league without them being swept up by the leagues across the pond?

I watched the draft. From what I understood Mwanga and Okuga have a chance at immediate impact. McInerney is more of a project.
Regardless, I'm happy about our soccer team.
The blog I cover the Flyers on also has the Sons of Ben leader as our Union guy though he's busy with SOB stuff recently.
We've been working with getting ties with the Union because I think it's going to be a blast. Our Phillies writer bought season tickets in the SOB section.
Needless to say, I've never been a big soccer guy, but I'm definitely getting swept up in the excitement.

Ha Ha, it must be hard to watch it knowing that the whole world pretty much plays the sport at a higher level. Not a knock on you guys, as your international team seems to be coming around nicely. But when LA signed Beckham for £250 million. Well that just made every european laugh pretty hard
In the UK, football is done very differently. There is no draft at all. Players come through the academies of the county's that they are in. For example a lad born in manchester would either play for Manchester UTD or CITY. I don't think it's legal for them to play elsewhere untill they reach a certain age.

Season tickets are really cheap. If I didn't save most of my money from writing articles for Flyers games, I'd probably jump on and get some.
Seriously, we probably won't win anything early, but I'm excited to go to some games regardless.
I was really upset when the Barrage folded and left town. I liked heading over to Nova and watching some games. I used to play lacrosse, and they were my fourth Philly major team. Now it looks like soccer will be.

Sorry to be dumb, but did they finish the stadium in chester or is it set to open before or during the season?

It's a different system, no doubt. We tend to send our players through their local programs, then they get recruited into colleges (or universities, I forget which term you guys use, but they're interchangeable over here), then the draft. It's a crazy socialist sporting landscape for the most part where we try to level the playing field at ever chance we get. As for the talent level, obviously it would be nice if it would improve, but I'm proud to be from Philadelphia and I'm going to cheer on the teams regardless of how good they are. I'm sure some of the lesser EPL sides' fans feel the same way. The MLS is leaps and bounds better than it used to be, at least.

The first home game is at the Linc as well, so that buys even more time.

I am so annoyed I will be missing the first ever game because I will in San Jose for hockey nationals.

I hope they plan on signing a big name player. They haven't built a very good team although they are very young for the most part.
I want season tickets but can't really afford them at the moment. I can, but it would be very irresponsible of me.

in what sense? our league isnt at a very high level yet because people in the states couldn't care less about soccer. but if you're trying to say that we don't produce some great players, then you're mistaken. after all the USA is the best producers of goal keepers in the world

I watched the draft and plan to follow the team closely. Sounds like they're going to have a good team in their first season. I don't know how much support they're going to get from the city since the stadium is in Chester for...I don't know why, that's stupid. Their first game will be at the Linc.
I think it's 8. I'm no MLS expert, but the focus seems to be more on homegrown players anyway, so I think 8 seems a bit more than most teams would go for, but that's what the rule seems to be.

Sounds like the old montreal rule in the NHL where they automatically got the best french canadian players
Actually the stadium in chester is on the waterfront and easily accessible by interstate, they build ramps from the walt whitman bridge to the stadium. It's more marcus hook than chester.
