Most of us expected him to max out as a defensively sound, 60 point 1b/2a when we drafted him, so that would line up.

The gross ignorance of people and understanding of his condition is pretty appalling though. I understand I'm probably a little more sensitive to this since I suffer from a similar condition, but this is like making fun of him because he has chronic arthritis, or epilepsy.

I still can't definitively say his concussions have made zero contribution to his current condition. I fully expect him to play the entire season coming up and have a strong 2nd half. He'll return to form in 2021-2022 as a legitimate 3c with 2c upside and in 2022-2023 will be a bonafide 2c

To be honest I'm not praising him because Patrick has these concussions but he goes out of his way to headshot Kurtis Gabriel, who's a Shark player. I just can't support him when he does this, just can't.

That was a shoulder to the chest and was in response to Gabriel drilling him face first into glass with a hit from behind earlier in the game where Gabriel saw nothing but numbers the entire time.

Disagreed on both counts.

Patrick caught Gabriel in the jaw as well as the chest. Hitting a guy in the face behind the play isn't OK.

And... there's a reason Gabriel got suspended and Patrick didn't.

Here's the video. Towards the end of it (1:50 mark or so) you can see Nolan's shoulder/elbow in the upper chest area by the Devils logo. Just because Gabriel's head gets thrown back doesn't mean he was hit in the jaw. At most it's a 2 minute penalty for interference.

Put it on a slower playback at exactly 1:50. From that angle you can see plain as day that Gabriel's head whips to the side from the force of direct contact, not back because of the contact to his chest. You can't miss it if you're on a slow playback at that point in the replay.

There's no question at all that it was a headshot.

I’m not gonna condone retaliation, but that was a pretty minor infraction by Nolan. Meanwhile you don’t understand his being angry over a blatant boarding? And he’s held to a higher standard because he has his own concussion problems? Odd logic. Not like he intentionally caused a concussion- he saw a dude who illegally ran him earlier, saw a chance to put a shoulder into him, and he did so. Not saying it’s right, but I’ve seen far dirtier and it’s just bizarre to hold that one minor instance against a guy for the rest of his career.

To be clear -- I am saying Gabriel's hit was much worse. That was the point of my first post.

The Patrick hit was still dirty, though, and definitely a headshot.

I can’t stand Philly and this was a minor penalty by Patrick. Not a headshot at all.

Clearly this is not a headshot; it’s 2 minutes for interference. If Patrick is able (injury concerns himself) to play with this type of edge, and combine that with his skill he might yet be a player.

1. There's massive question that it's a headshot.
2. Let's agree on this, at least: The main point of contact was NOT the head, right?

Surely you must agree with that.

I don’t know what to tell you... watch that replay at 1:50 on a slow playback. You can see Patrick hit Gabriel right in the face. It’s plain as day, there’s not a debate about that part.
I don't see it. Looks incidental to me

I don't see it at all neither. Upper chest that took Gabriel by surprise.

Guys.

Here is the video in a YouTube format. If you’re on desktop you can click into the settings, if you’re on mobile you’ll need to tap on the header to pull it into the YT app first.

Click “settings”. Click “playback speed”. Click the lowest option which should be 0.25. Now set the video at 1:49 and let it roll.

You can clearly see the head impact before the chest impact. Like, this isn’t even a question. It’s not a situation where the contact wasn’t captured on camera and we have to use guesswork. It’s right there.

I don’t think it’s a suspendable offense, because not every bit of head contact has to be punished that way. In context of what Gabriel did before, we know what this was about and it would be ridiculous to call the same punishment on both sides. But this stuff about it not being a head hit at all is crazy, seeing as it was captured on video.

You're not answering my question.

Is the head the MAIN point of contact (not the first)?

i.e. If I go punch your mouth, but my fist grazes your nose first - what is the main point of contact?
