Yeah, I don’t disagree with any of your tiers.

Whether or not they hit that level is obviously unclear, but the potential is definitely there.

And fortunately/unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be adding another top forward this year too. Hopefully the last lottery pick for a while.
We are drafting a Dman to replace who we lose in expansion.

;)

It will be especially painful when we do win the top pick in the lottery and then remember Hughes suffered a serious concussion in his last game, not serious enough to end his career but enough to give him a 50-50 chance of being a sheltered third liner. We will have to choose, and we will choose poorly. Our suffering will nourish the Cenobites for a century.

He's crushing the PP. He had another point today. 20 PP points (2nd in the league) in 37 games and he didn't even start the season on PP1.

That's almost 60% of his production, which I'm not sure is sustainable, but considering he went pointless in the first 8 games, and I would have taken 0.5+ PPG as a win this year, this is a good development.

I haven't looked at stats to compare. Just going off what I've seen, but the forwards on Calgary are not very impressive. Mahlm seems the most dangerous offensively, but that's not saying a ton.

I think that might have something to do with his points being scewed. Big Z seems to make plays at even strength very often. I like his playing making ability no matter where he's at on the ice. I'm not sure that forward group is good enough to take advantage of much at 5v5.

Calgary is 4th out of 22 teams in 5v5 Goals per game and Zamula is about 15th in 5v5 scoring for defensemen. That's still pretty good for an 18 year old. Wylie is about 28th fwiw.

While the rate he is scoring at now, may not be a reflection of his true talent level, my post wasn't meant as a criticism really. Calgary's PP is humming now and they are now 2nd best in the league. And it can't just be brushed off that Zamula may be a reason for that surge. He's a smart player and makes good decisions when he has the puck. Not sure he's an NHL PP guy, but this is a nice snapshot of his skill level. If he's running ~60+ percent of his points on the PP over a season or two, the red flags may start to go up- that is Chris Bigras/Brandon Gormley territory, but we aren't there. I really like the kid and he seems to be getting better as the season progresses. I definitely don't think he's a PP specialist or anything. He has the tools to drive play at the next level.

*As a reference I believe Sanheim and Provorov were like 35% and 38% respectively as far as % of points on the PP in their D+1 seasons.

Good stuff. I definitely didn't think they'd be so high in 5v5 scoring. I must be underestimating Calgary's forward depth.

Are we happy about this? All I know is those teams are higher in the standings, although SSM is 2nd in their conference, so it's not like they're in a bad spot...

Ottawa & London are better teams on paper as well. Obviously if SSM is moving Frost he’s not going to be the only one going so that team would be a lot different if they’re sellers.

They traded a lot last year in go for it year & came up short. So they could be looking to restock the cupboards for the following years.

In junior hockey the cycles are so short & practically everybody makes the playoffs anyway so you’re either buying or selling. There’s really no in between.

Makes sense. Thanks.

The workings of the CHL are still kinda strange to me. Seeing a team that's 2nd in their conference being sellers is odd when you're used to looking at the NHL.

Was watching the USA - Finland game the other day when Button when on a big promotion talk about Cates . Said he plays at Minn ST for USA's head coach Hastings and how Hastings loves him there and play him in all situations there as well . Button is such an idiot can't get the team he plays for right little alone the right coach . Just loves to hear himself talk , he needs to fire his fact checker as well . lol

Yeh, I think in terms of Flyers young fwds:

70+ potential (legit 1st line):
Patrick, Konecny, Frost, Farabee

~45-55 pt potential (top six, possibly 3rd wheel on 1st):
Lindblom, Allison, Ratcliffe, Rubtsov

~30-40 pt potential (3rd line, 2nd line fill-in):
Vorobyev, Aube-Kubel, Kase, Laczynski

~20-30 pt potential (4th line, 3rd line fill-in):
Bunnaman, Twarynski

Are the guys I would be comfortable semi-projecting right now.

O'Brien, Lycksell, Cates, Sushko, Strome, Westfalt and Hain... all just a bit far away right now for me to try and even semi-accurately predict what they could be. Though everyone outside of O'Brien and Strome for sure at very best has ~30-40 upside, and most likely less.

You’d think they would want get a head start on things with some of those guys at least.

I think of the guys in the AHL:

Aube-Kubel, Kase, Vorobyov

Could hold their own in the NHL this season... though with Kase I would give him the whole year. He is skilled and feisty as hell, but no defensive stalwart even though he tries and could do with another summer to get stronger.

NAK is just amazing in the AHL, really one of leagues best 2-way forwards at 5v5. I dont see much more he can do now at that level.

Vorobyev for me looked better last year than he has since going back. Not been bad by any means, but towards the end of last season he was looking like AHL Couturier. But it should be noted he has hardly got any PP time since back down, which is a bit frustrating considering how good a play-maker he is, lethal on the right half wall. He looks like their best PKer though... but last year him+Lindblom were and Lindblom cannot sniff an NHL PK.

A lot of these guys can play at the NHL level. You see it everywhere else all the time. The stars are obvious but also random talent that can handle things in the NHL. Yet we continue with amac for no good reason.

I don't know where post this.. But I want to say that...

After last game against Preds when we were totally useless, bullshit... I've been watched best memories of Flyers on YT. For example, 2010 PO run, Forsberg highlight in Flyers, Legion of Doom, etc etc..

And I have to say one thing:

OUR ORGANIZATION IS TOTALLY SHIT TODAY. ABSOLUTELY BULLSHIT.

Lappy, Knob, Gordon, Holmgren, Scott, MacDonald, Simmonds.............

And I'm crying...

Oh, I love this game.

Theoretical.
To understand why Colin McDonald is an all star, one must first understand what it means to be an all star. It requires a lot of thought, so much so that it could make your brain smart, but your head dumb. A lot of people think that it's the guy that scores the most goals, most points, sells the most jerseys. Yep, what a concept, but I think this time we all could use a little change. Get your game on, Colin McDonald, go play.
