As always, it bears repeating: it's not that McClennon "moves the needle". He likely amounts to nothing. But disregarding actual production under the moniker of "undersized" is a regular occurrence with this franchise and has been for a decade. Once again a symptom of the disease. It's all too predictable, from the managerial handling of the player to the reactions of the press to the defending franchise on message boards. Add him to the pile

Realistically, TK, Tippett, Brink, Allison, Foerster, Wisdom, Hodgson, Sandin, Tuomaala, maybe JOB, Brodzinksi.
Pretty crowded at RW.

I think if McClennon improved his skating he'd have been signed, but being a good but not elite CHL scorer didn't bode well for his NHL future.

He didn't get one of fifty contracts so who does? The phantoms if not the royals could have absolutely used some help in the scoring department

Embarrassing franchise. We're just in way too good of shape to sign McClennon and way too good to draft a russian player this year, too. Elite franchise. We pick and choose because we're the elite of the elite. No wrong decisions, ever.

I never come into this thread so I'm glad someone pounced on this reference because it's the first damn thing I thought of too.

The Phantoms will already be adding Lycksell, Foerster, Desnoyers and Wisdom. Possibly Tuomaala as well.

N Cates and Brink are waiver exempt, so they could possibly see some AHL time although I doubt it.

Then there's the long list of bubble forwards who won't be waiver exempt. In total that's 16 forwards.

Allison
Brown
Cates, J
Hodgson
Laczynski
Ratcliffe
Sandin
Strome
Willman

You really fell for that bogus Russian story?

So what does Bona Fide mean in this context off offering contracts? Is it a new CBA thing? I have never heard mention of it in reference to hockey before. Anyone have any idea?

Tuomaala is no where close to the AHL.
He should have come and played for Sudbury, what a blunder and a wasted year of development.

Meh. Finland has a great development model. He was fine there even if he should have/needed to split the year between pro and junior. The blunder was keeping him around the AHL team when he clearly wasn't ready for that level and shipping him back to Finland in the middle of the season.

Beat me to it. Didn't he end up healthy scratched for a stupid amount of time before they sent him back?

Allison and Laczynski won't be in LHV next year, they were just stashed there b/c they didn't get healthy until the spring, and at that point they wanted to audition some other forwards for next season - they knew what they had in these two.

Lycksell - Brown - Foerster
Ratcliffe? - Desnoyers - Wisdom
Willman - J Cates - Hodgson
??? - Strome - Sandin
Do they bring back O'Reilly and Wilson or add some other AHL veterans?

Zamula/Hogberg - Wylie
Millman - Zech
Ginning - Menell
Seeler (#7 in Philly or on LHV), Day?

So when the Flyers drafted for quantity and signed their guys they had a top rated prospect pool. The development and how they panned out is a different discussion. The NHL draft system will always be the most successful when you draft for quantity and keep the quantity around.

A couple of reasons for them not signing McClennon that I haven't seen talked about.

1) they signed this guy last September

2) they are going to sign this guy in March/April

Avon has far more upside than McClennon, missed the 2020-21 season (OHL), last season 64g 29-39 68.
6'0 174, showed in TC in a tryout that he has above average NHL speed, could get faster as he fills out.
July birthday.

Not sure if Brodzinski is a NHL talent, watching the NCAA playoffs, but he should be a solid AHL player.
6'0 216 at 21, did make a jump last year but isn't an offensive talent, 39g 12-14 26 on a loaded MInnesota team (Meyers was their leading scorer).
