Not sure if Brodzinski is a NHL talent, watching the NCAA playoffs, but he should be a solid AHL player.
6'0 216 at 21, did make a jump last year but isn't an offensive talent, 39g 12-14 26 on a loaded MInnesota team (Meyers was their leading scorer).
Have you seen him play? He's a physical player who relishes getting into the dirty areas of play.

Yeah, Flyers special!

Problem is I didn't see the skating and skills that would allow him to play top 9.
Hodgson already fits that description and has shown NHL scoring skill.
Allison, Foerster and Wisdom also fit that mold.

If the Flyers don't sign JOB next spring, I think they get a comp pick, which would be #51?.
So they can watch his play, decide if he's as good as a 2nd rd pick in a deep draft, then make their decision.

As always, it bears repeating: it's not that McClennon "moves the needle". He likely amounts to nothing. But disregarding actual production under the moniker of "undersized" is a regular occurrence with this franchise and has been for a decade. Once again a symptom of the disease. It's all too predictable, from the managerial handling of the player to the reactions of the press to the defending franchise on message boards. Add him to the pile

Realistically, TK, Tippett, Brink, Allison, Foerster, Wisdom, Hodgson, Sandin, Tuomaala, maybe JOB, Brodzinksi.
Pretty crowded at RW.

I think if McClennon improved his skating he'd have been signed, but being a good but not elite CHL scorer didn't bode well for his NHL future.
Why did they draft him at all? What more were they expecting or wanting than 40+ goals?

You could argue to hell and back on whether his game would or would not translate to NHL success. That is not the issue. The fact of the matter is there was no sane or logical reason to not extend a contract offer to him (unless you are counting stupidity)....
- did he produce at the CHL level? Yes
- did he regress? No
- did he grow 6 inches? No (if you were expecting this then see stupidity comment above)
- is it already crowded at his position? So what. Plus the farm system is ranked mid 20's so the term crowded looses importance
- is there a contract slot issue? No
- Flyers management is composed of some of the most neanderthal and unintelligent individuals the sport of hockey has ever known. Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner

There's always a contract slot issue. You only get 50 of them.

If they re-sign Ustimenko, Hogberg, Strome, Ratcliffe, Laczynski, Hodgson, Cates, J, Allison, Tippett, MacEwen and Frost that would be up 43 before signing any free agents.

They may want to pursue other free agents, waiver wire guys, undrafted guys like Avon last season, etc.

Usually when guys like McClennon make it they bust out in their D+2 season and score close to 1.5 ppg.
He's a good but not elite scorer, very undersized, and lacks the top end speed you like to see in a smurf.
Doesn't mean he won't make it, but he's not a high probability bet to score enough for a NHL top 9, and he's not well suited to an energy line.
