Finding new ways to win, and finding ways to almost lose, equals growth. Growth is good for character and character is an identity, Identity identifies who you are, knowing who you are is good is it not?

After watching this game I don’t know how you can argue McGinn shouldn’t be in the top 9 permanently.
100% agree. Theres no discernible weakness to his game. Good on the forecheck, uses the body well, solid skater, positioning, pker and high hockey IQ. Seldom does he throw the puck in dangerous areas of the ice. Very sound solid and consistent hockey player. One of the better players we have without the puck.

Letang’s season looks pretty cool until you realize Makar has 16 goals and more points in two more games.
Letang's season is more than pretty cool, it's awesome for this team's needs. We would be f***ed without him. Comparing him to a 23 year old playing the best hockey of his life is hardly fair. Makar is amazing regardless of the metric, but let's see if the Avs figure out yet another creative way to shit the playoff bed this year.

Why are you complaining that much about the defense, it was decent, it's just that for once every other dangerous chance for the opponent went into the net. It's hockey, you are going to give some chances and even hot goalies can't stop everything. Compared to the previous game, the defense was stellar. ;)
The PP worked this time but I don't think these highlight reel passes are going to work against better teams very often. Sometimes keeping it simple works better but let's see.
The offense was unleashed in the second half of the game but you gotta wonder what might have happened if the Coyotes goalie didn't gift us a goal right when we needed it for 3-3. Crosby was great, Malkin was great at takeaways but his passing was so sloppy that his 2A feel rather undeserved. Good to see Rodriguez back on the score sheet.
Still room for improvement but this team's ability to score timely goals and get wins is rather impressive, especially considering its average age and the packed schedule.

I've not read the thread yet except the first few posts. Currently learning how to take screen captures of videos and turn them into gifs. Here's a few from last night:

Best part of the Boyle goal was him looking around afterward at other players on the ice. Like, "do you believe that shit?"

I've also got them as mp4 files on Imgur but can't figure out how to get them to be high quality gifs.

I presume you're doing that one for whoever it is reaching around Marino to fistbump Matheson and Marino looking like a confused kid?

What a work of art. So many emotions in those few moments. He wants to be respectful to the opposition, but knows what he did is absurd. He can scarcely believe it actually worked, but he does it enough in practice he's not surprised. From out of the game to scoring highlight reel goals - god this is a beautiful sport. This gif should be in the Penguins Criterion collection.

We know all about Sid's magic, Tang/Rust staying hot, and all the other headline dudes. But when guys like McGinn and Boyle are scoring clutch/pretty goals and getting mobbed by the team, you know something is definitely going right. These guys are killing it out there every night, and having a blast. It's incredible to watch.

When you're getting production from everywhere, its hard to stop. We have six guys on double digit goals, but when three of them are McGinn, ERod and old man Carter, you know we have room to get even better.

Just so cool to know no matter what happens you’re gonna win. Loving that feeling while it lasts.

sign Letang and Malkin already
It's kind of amazing right? Like the frequent joke of the team "flipping the switch" is true. Except not, because that would imply they're playing bad and suddenly start playing good. Right now, it's just that they're playing fine the whole time, go a goal down, and then suddenly start scoring at will and smothering the other team. Like the switch is a nitrous tank.

Like you said, "while it lasts". And I dont want to jinx anything, or make the comparison as a bit of foreshadowing. But I really havent felt this way about the Pens since the first half of 2016. Like the team is an a freight train running downhill, and there aint nothing stopping it.

Again, not flipping the switch, or lucky bounces, as that would imply we're getting by on the skin of our teeth. It's more of a slow and inexorable rising tide in these games that other teams cant escape. Like an arm wrestler that is nearly pinned, and slowly, gradually turns the tide en route to victory. You can see it coming, but the other team can't stop it.

As long as we stay healthy, as long as we address the backup situation, and as long as we get some of our vets rested before spring, the sky is the limit.

One thing the Pens have had is leadership from Sid that is just under appreciated by hockey folks. His biggest strength is setting the tone for 15 years and making the playoffs every f'n year. What separates him from all the stars who are constantly compared to him is his leadership and willing to take on that role. Every all star on the Olympic team or world championship knew Sid was the guy. Not Kucherov or Mathews or McDavid or all the other players considered the best players in hockey. Sid is the best because they all know he is.

Think about all the little stories you've heard over the years - welcoming new acquisitions to make sure they are comfortable joining the team and with their new life in the city for example. People talk about culture in sports and business all the times, and Crosby is the ultimate culture driver in sports. Everything he does is to make this team more likely to win.

The goal by Boyle is the latest example that even the least skilled, most grinder NHL'ers are still in the top .001% of hockey players.

Yeah, even a lot of the enforcers are dudes who can smoke a beer league team and go end to end at will. It’s just that the bar is so much higher for every other dude in the NHL that they look like schmucks in comparison.

lol…a lot of “as long as” here…we’ve already shown we can’t stay healthy, and our centers are so old the AARP is already sending them membership applications…

speaking about jinxes, there’s this…

HockeyBuzz.com - Eklund - Kevin: Five reasons why the Penguins are still legit contenders; Tues Buzz

lol….this guy also predicted we’d win a PO series the last few years…don’t listen, Pens

Pretty sure there was a fairly recent thread on r/penguins asking how they could try out for the Pens. Even though they never played competitively. And were like 30 years old.

Sully has to figure out the lines of the middle six…L2 was MIA most of the night, very few shots or HD chances…L3 didn’t get it going until the third period…Heinen does not work with Geno…I’d try swapping McGinn and Heinen, as McGinn is generating some chances just with his feisty forecheck…
