To the comment that said Bylsma got the Pens to the playoffs without Sid, Geno and Letang regularly:

2011 sure, Crosby and Malkin were lost down the stretch and the Pens were lead by Letang, Staal and Kennedy into unceremoniously losing in the 1st round.

2012, Malkin was by far the best player in the league, Letang was in his prime, Staal had his best season yet and Kuntiz-Malkin-Neal was the best line in the NHL. And Crosby came back in February or something like that and scored almost 2 points a game. Then they imploded vs Philly in a matchup where they had every statistical advantage.

2013, Crosby was by far the best player in the league, Malkin was 2nd, Neal and Kunitz doing just as well as before, Letang having his best season.. then they got Iginla, Dupuis was also back to being really good. A complete nonfactor vs Boston to the extent that it's really generous to say they even made the ECF. Their stupid stretch pass zero support system totally exposed. and the worst lineup decisions ever coupled with some brutal GMing by Shero with Murray and Morrow, The team's defensive performance in the last 3 playoff rounds at that point had been horrible.

2014, Crosby was by far the best player in the league and was healthy all year. Kunitz had his best season. Neal was mostly healthy and had his best season and Bylsma had a coach baby sitter in Martin to help instill some structure in their system finally after 4 years. Malkin and Letang weren't healthy that year but it doesn't matter. Totally choked vs NYR. Gladams for life etc etc.

So... are we really gonna act like Bylsma did wonders without the stars? How did Bylsma do after he was removed from having generational talent on his rosters?

Mike Sullivan. One playoff win in 5 years.

Soon to be 6.

The game was lost after #71 taking a bad, selfish penalty at the end of the 3rd. Tgen Jarry getting beat short side. Then Letang with a moronic pinch.

It’s the top guys. It’s pretty lazy blaming carter and dumoulin for this one.

Rust crosschecked Malkin into that board, stupid to blame him for that

The game was lost after the trade deadline. Even at our best, we don’t have the roster to beat that team. Too much talent on their side.

Bylsma was actually great at getting a lot out of injury riddled teams. The problem was the playoffs lol.

Sullivan has his place in Pens history. But this team should probably just miss the playoffs and rip this bandaid off.
Sully's also had great results with very depleted rosters, but yes, his post-Cup record is worse. In fairness, some of that is just on time catching up with the stars, but his nonsensical deployment with a full roster available is on him.

Not really.

He should've missed but lucked into the playoffs in 19-20.

Won the division in 20-21 and then we sucked most of the season last year, but everyone else sucked more.
