And simultaneously, if you were competing, why would you accept a PP which was dead last in the league for a majority of the season?

But he worked really hard to make sure he hired the best GM he could (himself).
Why does it matter? Would you rather finish in the middle and stay middle? Nothing he could do could preclude Kris Letang from turning the puck over less, and give Geno the fountain of youth. None of these things in the big picture matter. The team has aged out. It's that simple, it's that easy.

Which was still largely influenced by Hextall's scouts, no? We fired 3 scouts on June 2, I don't think the draft board was assembled by Dubas in a month.

I trust Hextall's drafting more than Dubas'.

Hell, in some ways I wish we would've kept Hextall.

He was focused on getting JT Miller who seemingly would've added everything we needed in terms of piss and vinegar attitude, power play specialist, and another elite forward next to Sid and Geno. Watching him against us in the Canucks game really makes me regret us not pulling that one off.

I'm very confused by what you think exactly Dubas is going to be trying to do here over the next few seasons.

Everything you hear from the media is about how he wants to do a soft retool and try to be competitive in a few years.

Now, you're just trying to be argumentative. Kyle made the picks, he didn't have the time to assemble every single person for every single position prior to the draft. Listen, you don't like Dubas fine, I'm gonna give him more than 8 or 9 months before I declare him as a failure. You do you.

Yeah man, that dork from Toronto who can't even figure out when to fire a terrible AC is really going to pull off some moves by Friday.

Lol, you want to give him credit for something he didn't do. Figure out what you're actually trying to argue before you have your grandkid type the post for you.

Very simple, the same thing he's gonna try to do this trade deadline, accrue picks and prospects, get younger, build for the future. VERY VERY Simple.

He made those picks, he made the final decision. What, you're gonna hold it against him because he didn't have time to aptly staff the organization prior to the draft? You don't believe he had final say over these picks? Sounds like you just don't want to give him a chance.

Man I can't wait to acquire 29th overall and a player taken with 25th overall. That's going to really be the foundation we need for the future.
Better than nothing.

Better than nothing.

I mean there is a better route. You actually are a proactive GM this year and you get this team in the playoffs to see if anything happens. This also maybe ups the value of players. You fire your coach.

You take risks. You are creative. You try.

You do everything you can possibly do to finish in the playoffs so you are giving San Jose a bad 1st round pick.

Instead Dubas was even more passive than Hextall...

We'll be revisiting this post I promise you. What, you think he's gonna sit on his hands for the next week? Now you're just wildly flailing.

He let the team see just how flawed they are. He'll start fixing it this week. He afforded them a chance, they failed miserably. As we knew they would. But now they have no excuses. It was beautiful.

Hell, I'd love to be wrong here, I'd love to look a fool. :dunno: It would be the first thing that Kyle has done since the EK trade which is actually worth getting a little bit of excited over.

Good news is friday isn't far away, let's see how it all plays out and then draw a more informed conclusion.

Despite never making a great trade, having terrible player evaluation and spending 1st round picks on players like Nick Foligno and Jake McCabe and being completely abused in every contract talk he ever handled...

Kyle Dubas will suddenly make the moves needed to get this franchise back on the rails.

At the least, Dubas should make a clear decision about trying it for one more year with changes or leaning into the tank. This thread the needle do nothing shit isn’t cutting it.

I think if you're not going to convince the core to waive, the only semi-viable thing to do is change the coach and blow up the bench. You should still absolutely be exploring moving players like Jake or Rust or Smith, but nobody you bring back is going to make a whit of difference with the same coaching staff here.

Sell sell sell. Try again next year with a new supporting cast. But we need to get younger guys in here.

I still go back to what I mentioned in the offseason about sully and this season. It looked like Dubas brought in guys sully specifically wanted so there were no excuses if things went south. Well, here we are. Sully needs canned.

There's no timeline where they re-tool next year and win the Cup. It's utterly beyond them. So, what's the point?
The only prudent option is tanking and gathering assets. Otherwise it's just a waste of yet another year.

Doesn't give me joy to say it, but I think it's clear as day at this point.

We need picks, not prospects like Dubas is saying we're hunting for.
They shouldn't even be 2024 picks either. 2026 or 2027 picks would make more sense, since their rise to the NHL would align more with the team's push for a playoff berth. Circa 2030 or 2031.

However, that's only if you pull the plug soon. If they re-tool for the next few years, we might not see playoffs again 'til like 2035.

Hextall was never accepted. Sullivan won two Cups.

Fans will acknowledge its time for change, but they won't run Sullivan out of town.
I've met a few fans here and there where we briefly talk about the Pens and it's funny a lot of them will defend Sullivan. I usually keep the conversation short at that point.
