It’s his Achilles heel for sure. He never stops breakaways. It’s like he doesn’t get his feet set, he doesn’t challenger the shooter and he has no idea what to do. He panics

Not to just jump in, but he saved a breakaway in OT last night by Stutzle(?).

If you want a goalie that's great against breakaways, I hear there's a vet FA that is awesome at it ...

Sullivan is an idiot…just put Rakell on L1 where he works best and Rust is needed on L2…glad he at least demoted Smith…but he is awful at line combos…among other things lol

I wish he would try St. Ivany -Ludvig...I was watching Ludvig closely, he makes some spacing errors in his zone (who deos not on Pens roster) but when he is in the offensive zone, I was really impressed with his decision making, I think he has a real high IQ for a defensman..He gets his shots thrugh by positioning really smart just watch him, also seems to make pretty good plays when pressured by the forwards...Hope he plays him the rest of the season, whats to find out about Graves...that he sucks even more/ $M

St. Ivany has gotten specific mentions from Dubas a few times lately. The FO likes him a lot. Let's see if he's part of the solution for next season on the 3rd pair.

Well Graves was demoted and not a moment too late! Lol

With the exception of DOC in for Jake, that's probably the best looking lineup we've seen all year. I mean, I expect them to lose but those lines actually make sense.

Ned is the first goalie off at the morning skate…something must have happened with Jarry and the coach after he let in that weak goal in Dallas and was yanked…DK speculating that was the case in his morning podcast. I would t be upset with a Jarry trade this offseason lol

Has the board been trending towards shitting on our goaltending once again? Post-Calgary debacle is a wash IMO, the team quit for a good long stretch there.

Pre-Calgary, if we received league-average goaltending that game doesn't even matter as we're already too far out of it at that point.

Unless you want to be mad at the goaltending for keeping us from finishing even lower this season than we're going to.

Considering our starting goaltender has been awful for nearly three months. Yes. I'd blame him.

It's been awful for one month as has the team.

Jarry has a .895 SV% since December 1st. -7.21 GSAA.

Amongst goalies that have played 1000 minutes since December 1st, Jarry's SV% is 37th out of 45. GSAA is 39th out of 45.

Awful for one month though.

Ned is .898 and -3.23 GSAA by the way. So as I said all summer, we could've just signed Ned and kept a player like Desmith or a cheaper option and got comparable goaltending to what Jarry would've provided.

Well yeah, obviously when you factor in March to any stats beyond March, those stats are gonna look like shit. The month was an absolute tire fire. So none of that is a surprise.

I'd assume if you took the Pens goaltending up through Feb against the league it would look quite favorable. Which is what our own eye tests provided. Ned's only sample with a starter's workload ain't exactly sterling. People live in a dream fantasy where consistent goaltending is everywhere in the league but the Pens, sans big bucks for a keeper. DeSmith's #'s are shit this year for the team he plays for. Advocating bringing him back even though his lack of consistency is why our coach ran Jarry into the ground the last two years is an insane notion.

This is the state of modern goaltending. This is why so many teams are in the market for 'tending. Short of a Connor Hellebuyck, guys are going through hot and cold stretches everywhere, unless their team is good enough to consistently insulate them. It's not 10 years ago.

I mean hell, look at the career #'s between Vasilevskiy and Jarry even. 2.56 GAA .917 SV& vs 2.69 GAA .912 SV&. Not exactly a huge disparity, even though we know Vasilevskiy is the far superior goalie, playing on a better team for more of his career notwithstanding.

Goaltending is probably one of the least effective places to spend cap, IMO. It's hard to think of a worse one except PK specialists or veteran 4Cs with no offense.
