I see our lineup issues as follows:
  1. Adams, to a lesser extent Sill being present
  2. Scuderi being present
  3. Spaling being forced onto 3rd line
  4. Goc not getting enough ice time
  5. Malkin not at centre
  6. D pairings are not working

I think the best way to balance our lineup for now is:

Trade Sutter for a 2/3rd line winger, trade Scuds for picks. Sutter isn't a 'problem' per se but he is an area of strength (3rd line centres). I prefer having Goc there, he is just as good defensively and better at possession, even if he doesn't have Sutter's hands.

Winger - Sid - Hornqvist
Kunitz - Malkin - (Bennett)Everyone one space up for now
Dupuis - Goc - Downie
Comeau - Spaling - Sill/Call-up
Adams

Martin - Letang
Maatta - Ehrhoff
Despres - Bortuzzo
Harrington/Whoever

I agree with your diagnosis but not your cure. I say we go get Alex Killorn for Martin and a right handed physical d preferably Zach Bogosian even if it cost us a lot but not Sutter. I.E. Goc, Kapernan, a 1st.

Killorn - Crosby - Bennett
Kunitz - Malkin - Hornquist
Dupuis - Sutter - Downie
Sill - Spaling - Megna

Despres - Letang
Maatta - Bogosian
Erhoff - Bortuzzo

Dupuis-Malkin-Comeau tonight. Baby steps. A little surprised Johnston gave up waiting for Beau to return before pulling the trigger, but props to him for doing better by Malkin. I still think he waited about a week too long, but it's better than we'd have seen from the last regime when it came to combos that weren't working.

I'd probably try a top 6 similar to that which the poster above you gave. Something like:

Kunitz-Crosby-Downie/Dupuis
Comeau-Malkin-Hornqvist

After the first game people were raving about the chemistry that KCH displayed, but I haven't seen anything of the sort in the last few games. Crosby and Hornqvist have zero ES production together over the last 5 games. I don't necessarily believe which winger plays with which center is significant atm, but it's obvious to me that at least until we make some trades/get Bennett back, KCH needs to be put on the backburner as a 'Plan B'.
