we have a potential checking l.ine with Morrow/Sutter/Cooke... we need an energy line and Adams and Glass are second tier hitters, not cyclers per se
here is what drives me NUTS about glass playing...
A.) He is in no way, shape, or form an asset to the offense. He cant pass, shoot, or grind... he is 100% a liability in their end. Lets just put that up front. Sure, 4th line... dont need that there... but still its nice to have and if someone in a higher line goes down its really nice if you can plug players in somewhere else without them being utterly useless.
B.) He is supposedly a PK Specialist, yet our PK has stunk all year. Can anyone remember a single PP where you thought... "Oh My Gosh... look at Glass out there.. he is a beast on the PK"... or heck even "That was a nice play by Glass"... I cant.... That isnt to say he is bad at it... he really isnt, but still if you are going to make the roster as a PK specialist you need to be better than just a guy who doesnt make plays and just plays a conservative role. guys like staal or talbot put the other teams PP on their heels at times... we dont really see that kind of play from Glass.
C.) If you are going to play him as a defensive forward... note this... he had the worst +/- on the team. He also had a whopping 1 takeaway all season long... In 169 more minutes than Vitale he managed a whopping 2 more blocked shots. (Vitale blocked shots at the same pace as Adams did, and had 8 takeaways compared to 1 giveaway... and wasnt on the ice for a single PPgoal scored against us.) Its really hard to watch Glass lead a line that is pinned in its own end for a solid minute while the other team cycles... He just is better suited for a support role like Adams plays. they dont have enough speed on that line for him to not be a solid defensive contributer there...
D. They vastly overrate his hits... Officially in a ten minute period of play this season, he averaged .5 more hits than adams, 1 more than Vitale, and 1.5 more than Bennet...
so you are telling me that we are going to sit several more offensively gifted players, who are better defensive players, with better speed and better passing ability, for what amounts to a hit a game? That is what jacks me off. yes bennet will make a silly rookie mistake at times, but they are few and far between. And Vitale obviously pissed in Bylsma's cheerios once... Still its hard to see why anyone really gets benched over Glass right now...
