Thank god that one is over. Another brutal game to watch. This team just can't get it together against legitimate defensive teams. They thoroughly outplayed us in every zone. Rinne in would have only made it more apparent that we have no business calling ourselves contenders against the likes of teams like Nashville.

Lots of posts. Bad luck. However we did a poor job of getting to the inside.

Our powerplay is awful to boot.

Minuses

-Despres. He's been playing great but he was brutal today. Big time mistakes led to goals that we couldn't make up for.
-Letang. Same as Despres
-Sutter. Should not be the 2C right now. Just does nothing that drives possession or the play. Did more to hinder than help.
-MJ. Not coaching the way he should be. With an offense as anemic as this is right now, he needed to switch things up a little and he didn't. The power play stunk, no Sid on the 4 on 4, the 4 on 4 pairings were dumbfounding as well.

Pluses

-Pouliot. On the powerplay he has a shoot first mentality and that is refreshing. Wasn't stellar today but was good. Better than Harrington in the lineup for sure.

Evens

Sid, Kunitz, Perron, Hornqvist, Spaling, Martin, Scuderi, and Fleury. Just lackluster.

We need to get healthy in a hurry. Hopefully JR brings in a spark or two for us.

Did you jump the gun, or are you being facetious?

Pens need to get both bigger and faster as a team. That's pretty much what I saw. You win games like this by forcing mistakes, not by waiting for them, especially when the other club scores first.

I know people want an easy scapegoat and the coach is one, but it's the roster, not the strategy.

Despres was brutal today. MJ was even worse.

Great positional defense and gap control by the preds. Now that's a REAL TEAM!

I haven't watch a game for about three weeks. Damn they look bad. Doing nothing out there. They have turned plain.

Many of our issues could be solved by the coach properly using what he has at his disposal.

He does not, and shows no signs that he understands what's holding this team back. Maybe benching Beau again will cure what ails us!

Steigy thinks we played well for a while. What a mess.

As someone who's never liked Steigerwald, I'm not real impartial on this, but has he been like, way, way, way worse than usual this season? Seems like it to me.

remember guys, Laviolette and Trotz were available this summer, but the organization has chosen to make a bit of a soap opera even about the Shero/Bylsma firing...

-HCMJ - Hornqvist on Sutter's wing, Perron on the LW, Bennett on LW, poor system that can't handle fast, forechecking teams (still), Scuderi on 4v4, no Crosby 4v4, :30s for the 1st unit PP, no offensive zone answers (pucks to the net is a complete non-answer), continuing to play Bortuzzo

-Despres - bad game - it happens

- injuries as an excuse

- Perron's penalties

------ thinking being physical wins that game (hint: playing better hockey wins that game not physicality)

+/- Letang

+/- Pouliot

+ Spaling (for the first two periods)

+ Crosby (for the first two periods)

+ Scuderi & Martin

+ Sill

What Did Crosby do? Nothing again, and this is becoming more and more a regular occurrence.

Oh yeah

+Spaling. Was hard on him around the beginning of December, but he's been one of our best players since Christmas.

The fact that you even care about that after that performance is beyond bizarre
Yeah, that's pretty much grasping at straws there. You have to look pretty far down the list to find a positive. I guess that's what he did here.
