Pekka's problem

The only way Hutton sees the ice in the playoffs is if Rinne implodes like Crawford did last year or the Detroit goalies of years past and even then it would be temporary until Hutton implodes and hopefully Rinne has turned it around by then.

For starters, he could stop doing whatever this was.

Always love how Mitch Korn is always the answer for some. Funny how Holtby is only 7th in save percentage with Korn. Why was Dubnyk such a nightmare here with Korn and he is pretty good in Minnesota?

Pekka's problem is he is 33 and 6 foot 5. Still good much of the time but his elite days are behind him. Maybe he can muster up a great playoffs but I doubt it.

Colorado sure saw something on his stick side last night. They were wearing him out on that side.

It's true, it's true.

Dubnyk was too big of a project to fix in the short time he was here. Dubnyk also publicly admitted to trying a new technique in the off season.

[FIELDSET=Revolutionary technique helped Dubnyk rebound]
There was, however, one significant change this summer.

Dubnyk adjusted how he works on tracking the puck, a change which puts him on the cutting edge of a new tool some believe will be the biggest thing for goaltending since the butterfly.

The technique is called Head Trajectory and Dubnyk discovered it while working with former NHL goalie and current MSG Network analyst Stephen Valiquette for one week at Andy O'Brien's NHL fitness camp in Vail, Colo., before the opening of training camps.

Rinne's last season with Korn was horrible. Rinne was better last season for this new goalie coach.

Hutton seems to be working well with this new goalie coach...

His 2 last seasons with Korn were injury filled.

2012-2013: played the entire season with an injury
offseason: has surgury for said injury
2013-2014: Played about 3 weeks, then misses 4 months due to infection from surgury.

Hutton is only good as a backup, when relied to be a starter he fails under the pressure.

If Pekka has a problem it likely will be a short PO for the Preds.

That said, I'm not convinced we couldn't win a series with Hutton - but only way that will happen is if Peks gets hurt, cause Lavy would have to see Peks completely blown up for 3 games to even consider a change.

Hutton should be playing against the coyotes. Losing to them is not going to be a playoff confidence booster for Rinne

Ummmmm......

1) He won the game.
2) Last home game. Pekka will always start that unless injured.

Now let's get him some rest vs Dallas.

Pekka has been terrible but he's terrible when he doesn't face a lot of shots. If he gets 10 shots in the first 10 minutes he gets into the game nicely and usually has a good game. If he doesn't face a lot of shots early, he kinda drops off from the game, gets distracted and gives up a lot of goals.

But this isn't a problem we should face with the Ducks. They're going to come at us with everything they got so expect Rinne to face a lot of shots especially early. Here lies our hope of Rinne succeeding.

If Rinne is good the team has a chance. This team can not do what the Pens did last night with Zatkoff. If they could put up goals like that e would not care if Nystrom was in net. (yes that is an exaggeration)

I think if Rinne / Hutton has 35 saves, and the primary goalie leaves with an injury after the first, we get a breakaway, multiple 2-on-1's and an ENG, this team is capable of winning 5-2.

Okay, so in game 1 Pekka was good. Not perfect but good enough to win the game. He'll probably face a tougher duel Sunday 'cause I think they're gonna switch to Andersen.

In game 1, he didn't get tested a whole lot. The Ducks played pretty poorly and it's obvious that they'll improve a lot and are going to come harder at us. In game 2, Pekka has to be sharper to keep them down. He looked shaky at times and he still doesn't awake a lot of trust. He still needs to improve a lot, as does the whole team, in order for us to advance. I'm gonna give him credit on that game, but he still has almost the whole series ahead of him and it's more likely than not that he'll regress and start to give up easy goals. Hope I'm wrong.

or he could continue his 13-1-3 record against the Pacific division this year, or have the 2 goals allowed, .931 save percentage he had last night, which is pretty much the same exact numbers he had overall for most of the last half of the season.

Just saying as a counterpoint.

Hoping that tonight he doesn't falter due to lack of shots. The Preds are gonna come back hard and he may not have to face a lot of shots especially early on. That has been his problem this season.

I don't think Anaheim is gonna struggle to put shots on goal tonight.

Rinne and Crawford are polar opposites. Crawford developed under an excellent defensive core, and the first year their defensive core struggles, Crawford plays elite and bails them out. Rinne helped develop the defensive core that Nashville has, and finally this season with Nashville having their best defensive core of who knows how long, Rinne struggles and is needed to be bailed out by his defense.

Not to mention our defense sucked **** in both those years and Rinne had to single handily carry them.

At least you guys have a goalie that once a while carries you.

Dubnyk hasn't carried us a single playoff game in two years and <90 % saves is also pretty damn low.
