If you want a futures deal Ottawa has some good picks and prospects. But not really a really good 2C option available in a package

3+5+Norris

Doubt we would get 3/5/Norris. I would go for 3/Isles 1st/Ott 2nd and one of Thompson/Norris. It may seem like more than yours but gives Ottawa 1/5 and a bunch of 2nds and 3rds. Still gives Ott Laffy and possibly Drysdale. Still a great option for both teams.

if I’m not getting 3 + 5, I’d want #3 for Byfield, another first in the 8-12 range and then Thompson/ Norris.
Even if I got the 3 & 5, I’d trade #5 for #8-12 plus extra assets.

Laine is a fascinating situation. Polarizing player, who is going to want to be paid (overpaid?), in a flat cap world.

Why is Winnipeg trading him? Do they have cap issues?

Winnipeg is in a decent cap situation.

The reason to trade Laine is to perhaps fill a more positional pressing need, like centre.

Laine is a 60-70 point winger he's not returning the second overall pick when big money is coming his way soon
