Because we don’t have a cap issue going forward. We can easily re-sign JVR and pay the big three, and still have room to improve the roster. Keep in mind there’s a lot of dead wood coming off the books that will absorb a lot of the raises needed.
Also because we’re Toronto, where if possible we would exceed the restraints the nhl inhibits us with, so to utilize our financial might we just make guys go away and it isn’t a problem. If he’s not an effective player he won’t be a cap consideration.
