Agree! If they keep him in the lineup, at least play him. Under 10 min 5-on-5 and almost never a start in d-zone. That hurts the possibility to coach matchups.

Either stop sheltering Yandle or find someone else to play on pp1 and get him out of the lineup! Not even the players out of the lineup have to be sheltered that way. Stralman got to play almost 18 min 5-on-5 and pk when he was in the lineup and more d-zone starts, for ex.

Yandles play is not what hurts most right now, it’s how to coaches feel they have to limit his icetime and limits their coachning.

I did not look up the stats but I felt like Tippett / Luostarinen didnt take a single shift in the 3rd. Why not just roll with 11 forwards and 7 dman then. Shelter the MF if we have to dress him

But why do they HAVE to dress him? If he’d be outstanding on pp, no problem. But it’s not the case. Not even close! 1/13 over the last two games and it’s been decreasing. 38% Jan, 21 feb, 21 mars, 11 april...even 21 % isn’t that fantastic to be honest if you’re having so called pp-specialists. Huby, Horny and Yandle. Plus Barkov and EK.

A couple of guys look tired to me. Gudas looks tired. And it's no wonder why. I think Q should switch up that pairing. Maybe put Montour with Yandle for a little while.
It was good win. Obviously not nearly enough wins against this team this season for my tastes. But all they could do this game was win it, and they did.
Montour and Yandle certainly did look good together when they were paired in the third period. In less than three and a half minutes of 5v5 they were 4-0 on scoring chances. Obviously Yandle had a fine moment with Weegar as well, when he took a hit in his own zone to start the attack that resulted in Weegar's goal. Overall a really solid game by Yandle, despite very limited TOI. Pairing slow defensemen with speedier ones sounds like a good idea in general.

It was also nice to see all our top three centers stepping up in the third period and OT. Hopefully that translates to the playoffs.

all it took was Laine to spend offseason in Tampere and to do training together with Sasha. Barkov says that he not only learned to shoot the puck from every position but even winning mentality from Laine. Too bad that Patrik himself is part of an organization that is one of the worst in the league.
Dude’s a literal monk: he keeps on picks up new things for the game. Laine was a great choice last seaso; maybe a physical guy like Foligno next offseason

His development is insane and upwards: got to think Jagr for it.

Nutivaara-Ekblad
Forsling - Weegar
Montour - Gudas

:naughty:

Seeing Weegar absolutely elevating his game to extreme heights on a game he really wanted gives me hope he can carry this D core till Ekblad comes back.

What a performance.
He and Forsling deserve so much credit: we might win a division but I think winning a round is possible and it’s because of them.

I hope we find another LD for Ekblad to keep the Forsling-Weegar pairing up!

I'm not here to debate anything with you. You've got your opinion and I've got mine. I know I'm not going to change yours, and you're definitely not going to change mine. Let's leave it at that.

I was agreeing with your idea to let Montour and Yandle play for a while.

Boy, this feels good to beat those efficient, boring, whining Canes, one of the best wins of this regular season!

We showed again that this CAR team is not so super - if we manage not to sleepwalk through the first period, play them hard and with passion. We have enough quality. If we just marginally improve our special teams and for once can score on a breakaway or odd-man rush, we can beat them any time. Great thing for our heads to get this monkey of our backs... I don't care anymore who we face first. We can do damage to anybody, especially with Verhaege and Acc back.

Seen enough of Gusev. Does not bring anything to the table.

I like how they were blaming the loss on injuries, as if our Norris candidate defenseman and top 3 forward were in the lineup or something.

Yeah Gusev is trash. If you’re that small you absolutely cannot be a bad skater. You have to be at least excellent to amazing. You can tell he’s skilled and makes some sick passes but overall, his minutes are gonna decline in the playoffs.

What I like about Barkov right now is his puck protection and the way he is carrying himself driving the puck. It’s like he has a force field around him. Also looks like he’s picked up speed. In that OT goal last night he was unstoppable.
He's learned a lot from Jagr and it's starting to show as he fills out physically and gains more experience. He plays a lot like Jagr does down low.

Also, he's deceptively fast. The guy has really long strides and honestly you don't see a lot of guys catching him in the NHL. He's def not the fastest skater in the league (obviously), but his strides are long and effortless at this point. Just watch the goal from last night, Tro is hustling back pretty hard and the gap between the two just spreads as Barkov gets down the ice. Tro is a pretty good skater too.

We really need to stop and appreciate him sometimes, we're watching one of the best players to ever done a Panthers jersey and he's just now reaching his prime.

Q is forcing this team to play his Hawks-style of hockey even though they simply don't have the personnel to do so. In order for them to be effective against the Bolts in the first round, they'd need to emulate the 2012 Kings style of hockey. Even though there's a lot of emphasis on skill but high intensity hockey is still the way to go in the playoffs and thus I don't think there's need for guys like Gusev who can't cope with the speed of the game even in the regular season.

Exactly. They are not missing 1 player that is very meaningful compared to Ek and V.

Hard to imagine Gusev faring better in the POs than in the regular season...

I’m going to be honest, I was frustrated with him last year specially in the Islanders series. Basically because he wasn’t taking over like he’s now. I know there’s talk that he might’ve been injured all of last season or something. But whatever the case, this is the Barkov that is the envy of many teams and he’s our captain. I’ll also be honest, I still think Ekblad would in theory be better captain material. But if Barky is changing his aptitude to wear the C and is just a silent leader and it’s working to rally the troops, I’m all for it. I’m not one to think things must be done a certain way, if it gets the results, that’s all that matters.

We aren’t in the room: I think Barkov is almost idolized in the room. There’s a reason why Troch picked his number to honor AB. The locker room is effusive about him.

Certainly we need a leadership core because Barkov isn’t vocal but I think we have it now with Horny, Eks, Cookie

Well, you don’t always have the luxury or have to rally your troops in the locker room.. you also have to do it on the ice and in the bench. But yeah, if all it’s taking is some “not as vocal” conversation or something then, as I said, I’m all for it. I’ve just seen Ekblad be more emotional on the ice and in the bench. Also, he’s idolized because of his work ethic, humbles ness, way he carries himself, and ability on the ice. I don’t think it’s because he’s giving inspirational “let’s fkn gooo get these bastards!” speeches or something.

An example of getting emotional in the bench á la Mackinnon.

Plus, another one with Bergeron (Broons ended up losing that one)

Getting emotional means that you're losing faith, breaking down, etc.

He's shooting the puck.

Biggest development of this season, not Weegar, not Ekblad's career year before the injury, not guys out of nowhere like Forsling and Verhaeghe... it's Barkov shooting the damn puck.

All it took was to give him Inflatable Horsey and Pool Noodle as wingers.

He spent the offseason with Laine training shooting.
Learned to be more aggresive on top of learning to be a better shooter

It's pretty clear it was Ekblad stirring the drink on the PP, not Yandle.
