Sure is something when two call ups that are still pretty fresh from teams known for being “hard working” are bringing it the games since being called up (except Janmark’s first game against the Canes, but the whole team was dogshit).

Of course, they are motivated to keep their spots but with Kane out so long, they should feel somewhat comfortable. The thing is, they are playing hungry anyhow. How long until the lazy, entitled play of the incumbents (sans Hyman, and flashes from some of the other top players) rubs off on them? Any bets?

Benson to Bako to play games this weekend. I would think if he plays well in his next 2-3 games he will be brought back up and Holloway sent down. Rather have Benson on the 4th line (or higher as he has the smarts for it) than Holloway on the 4th line.

Sure I guess. Not sure it really makes a difference either way.

This is a complete joke and shows where the NHL’s mindset is. Open season on the stars with no chance for on ice retribution as we can’t have fighting anymore because snowflakes nor will there ever be league punishment.

Not his knee, it’s a high ankle sprain so not anything you can do surgically. It’s a long process of recovery and would impede training to a degree but I think it’s a stretch to say he didn’t do any training this off season.

And this is why we need a bottom 6 and at least 1 bottom pairing D full of dirt bags that will do the same to our rivals. The Kings, Flames, Avs, Kraken, Knights, etc. are all going to target our top guys and most of our guys won't do f*** all about it. The refs saved Edler from Nurse and we got a BS double minor to even it up. If our bottom 6 isn't scoring it should be full of guys that are either specialists or straight up ass kickers that will torture the other team's stars if they as much as look at Connor or Leon the wrong way. Give me Malone over Shore for these types of games. Matter of fact, what's wrong with a Benson-Malone-Kostin 4th line? Disturber with 2 shit kickers that go to the net. That's a real NHL 4th line with a purpose.

I'll give it a week.

Like the article says, the point is that he's more of an offensive problem. Average defender who sucks at transitioning the puck, just like every D to roll through town since Joni Pitkanen occasionally played hockey here.
I feel like Yost is making a poor assumption on the transition stuff.

Gregor posted some data from SportsLogIQ a couple years ago and Nurse was 5th in the entire league in controlled exits. I don't think he's got worse at it.

My brain is still trying to figure out that one rush from Janmark where he looked like a superstar. What in the world was that and where did it come from? Is there more?

When Nurse has his feet moving he is very good in transition.

He has problems (like a lot of Oilers) when he's standing around trying to thread home run passes. Everything with him is better when he has his feet going.

He’s a skilled player. This fanbase is so used to plugs in the bottom 6 that they expect nothing. Janmark was worth the bump in salary. If it wasn’t a flat cap he’d probably pull Foegele dollars, IMO

His skating - its a blessing and a curse.

Would like to like this 1000 times. What has been said over and over and over. Too much chasing after teams once they've fouled our stars, while their good players get a free ride. Last night McDavid gets cheapshotted and Nurse gets a penalty for going after the perpetrator. So basically, McDavid gets fouled for free, and the game goes on. Absolute bullshit the way this team plays sometimes.

Of course not
National Horseshit League.

But then again, I'm not surprised.

I hate, HATE how neutered this organization is. Woodcroft should have been blowing his top off post game causing attention it. His calm demeanor saying "questionable hit" probably made its way to DoPS and they thought if the coach doesn't think it's dirty, neither do we.

I wish there was another startup pro league like the WHA again to watch in North America. No way would I watch or support this f***ing inbred, mafia run, fixed circus of a league if there was. If I could find the streams and the time zones weren't basically the opposite, I'd actually probably start watching the KHL instead.

remember when Todd was here and Kassian kept getting suspended and then never played the same again? maybe tiered-league is exaggerating.......maybe elements of a tiered league?

Like cool to see Todd getting away with the veteran gamesmanship in Cali.

This might be the worst post I’ve seen in quite some time

Feel free to post evidence (actual, not bias) to the contrary. I’ll wait.

I can't believe there are people who still defend this player. 1 goal, 3 points in 17 games and a -7 and this is with plenty of McDavid time in this recent stretch. There's no way to put lipstick on that pig, he's been horrendous along with his counterpart Yamamoto.

One of Holland's biggest mistakes this offseason was hitching his wagon to these inconsequential players, actually it was his BIGGEST mistake although the Campbell signing could wind up more detrimental long term.
In any event, Holland could have allocated that $6M to a real Dman but instead, they've got $6M of dead cap space taking up roster spots.
So you have no evidence to the contrary- got it. Just your bias and not actually knowing what’s going on in the game.

Why would we do that to Holloway confidence? Its very important that he stays in the mix now and starts to see a few good things happen. Almost any time he makes a mistake its a GA or gongshow. Parking him back in the minors right now could lead to confidence issues or self doubt. Let him figure it out, he's too valuable and he's our best prospect forward that we got. I have confidence Holloway will improve, and that he will this season. But he's too good not to be here. Give him more minutes and let him make some more mistakes. Its how he'll learn.

I don't know but to see what the NHL has become over the last decade plus, I've lost a lot of interest and it continues to go down each season. I used to follow closely stats, standings, schedules of other teams, I'd watch all the way through the Stanley Cup finals...hell, I even watched the awards shows.

Now, all I do is look at the scouting the refs site and see who's calling the Oilers games. I can pretty much see how a game is going to go based on the two people who aren't even players but have a heavy hand in deciding the outcome. Or at least try and sway an outcome.

Remember the shit show officiating against Chicago? One of those refs, Jon McIssac was one last night.

It’s not a demotion in as much as he needs to play 20 minutes a night in all situations and not 5-8 minutes a night in order to improve his game. The 4th line should be for a role player that brings a different element.

Bring him back sometime in January filled with confidence and hopefully the Grade A mistakes are mostly worked out of his game and play him 10-14 minutes a night in the top 9.

you can probably track your downward spiral of interest by looking at the league in relation to sports betting --- from the Tocchet scandal to Vegas expansion, and a guy famous for playing a meth head telling you to download a sports betting app every 10 minutes.

Mistakes are what rooks tend to made of and need to be made at this level in order to experience it and learn from it. Bakersfield will be no such incubation for a player of this skill level. We have to ride it out with Holloway, or should, and we should be able to shelter rookie mistakes better than we do. The Kings young lineup make tons of mistakes every game, normally more than last night but they play a unified system and levels of D. It would be nice if we did any of that. For Holloway as well as the betterment of team. The learning ground is here. The NHL hills Holloway has to learn to climb are here. He's a resilient sort but my take is he needs to be in the show now. He isn't somebody you park in the minors for long. Plus with Kane out we could use his talent in the lineup.
