Yes, and when he gets traded at the deadline it’ll be for a a 1st, another pick, and a pretty good prospect. A lot of teams would beat that offer.

Agreed. That scenario is possible and likely something Chyka would do.

try again, Pac is worth more than a 2nd and a D prospect.
This isn’t a good deal for MTL at all but you’re underrating Merkley if you call him a D prospect, he’s lighting it up this season

Why would ARZ be interested in him? He has one more year left on contract and they aren't close to competing. Patches probably won't resign anyway.

This is very true. However any team, no matter their situation, would be crazy not to take him for such a nothing price as the OP thinks he's worth.

Just for the laughs I'd like to see this go down, MB thus completing his destroying of that franchise. He'd probably be found hanging by the balls from the Bell Center jumbotron soon after.

That's no guarantee, I understand Habs wanting to holdout for more than a 2nd + prospect but Pac regressed quite a bit this year, does that continue into next year? Maybe he gets hurt and Habs can't trade him at all at the deadline. Less risk moving him this summer for a less than ideal return than holding out till the end. Just look at what happened to the Red Wings with Mike Green.

or Pacioretty returns to form, and the habs end up trading a 35 goalscorer for a 2nd and a B prospect

Is arz a conteder enough that'd they'd trade the pics and prospects for 1 year of patches, I don't think so.

mtl needs a contender to be close to move him at the deadline, rule out young teams rebuilding and cap teams.

the potential destinations for patch are slim.

If he has another bad year, habs are screwed for value.

This thread likely stems from discussion on the Coyotes board. The team really needs a first line forward to play alongside Keller. They have nobody else that can score. While names like Paccioretty, JVR, and E Kane have been discussed Coyotes fans are painfully aware they can't afford to sign a top UFA nor do they really have the assets to trade for one.

If Arizona trades for Pacioretty at the draft, they'll likely be asking the Habs to discuss with the Pacioretty's agent prior to a deal taking place to make sure he signs an extension the following week.

Using some of those pieces I'd rework the trade.

Mtl:
Domi, Max (Established player that still has the potential to turn into a solid top 6 W)
Merkley, Nick (A-level prospect as he's a former 1st rounder + at a PPG in the AHL in his first season as a C)
Minnesota's 2018 2nd rd pick - 54th overall (late 2nd rounder)
Arizona's 2018 3rd rd pick - 64th overall

Arizona:
Pacioretty, Max
Plus one of (Carr, Daniel / Byron, Paul / Schlemko, David / Hawkey, Hayden / Earliest 2018 4th rd pick)

But IMO, Arizona shouldn't go after those kinds of moves, I know they want to contend, but they have solid prospects on the back end, and some pieces up front. They just need to improve at their G position and use that early pick this year and maybe another one next year + add in Dylan Strome making it to the big league and then they'll be contenders.

Although, them being a floor team, they could easily fit in Pacioretty's extension and they would greatly benefit from a PKer that puts in 35 G a season for the next 3-4 years.
