Dale DeGray: "Our plan is to hope for the season to start sooner rather than later"

Me: "Hope is not a plan!"

Realistically the plan is that the OHL really doesn't have one. For all the talks about start dates and different things the coaches and managers can have meetings about GM's like DD really don't have answers. He more or less said that in his interview with FW.

They are simply preparing for a possibility that falls under the If everything goes as planned this is what will happen... type of approach and until it does the Attack along with the rest of the OHL is sitting in limbo with a lot of unknown outcomes to tackle as they come.

On one hand DD has to have some form of optimistic approach to the OHL starting up again at some point on the other he has to be able to hold up his end of the bargain for the players and families who come in to camp and the team if/when the OHL gets the green light to start to ensure the best and safest possible experience that he can for the players coming in as 1st year guys and returnees as well.

At this point in time no GM in the league can offer that including DD it is just impossible for that to happen right now, and this is not because he doesn't want to but he has no control over it.

Under a normal year the team would be able to offer that way back in August but this year no one team including the Attack can even offer something that isn't available in any way shape or form to offer right now. No matter how we look at it theres still a lot of hurdles to overcome.

Even if DD could offer half of what he could and the OHL offered the rest there still is now clear answer for managers to say to kids "Okay here's what we expect from you when you arrive." It's just not possible.

Right off the the starting gate the OHL and teams would have to offer proper quarantining facilities and accommodations for all staff and players which teams like the Attack and OHL just don't have the facilities to do something like that right now if they did then I'm sure they would by now. The other thing is that the Attack can not nor the rest of the OHL can afford to play without fans in buildings even if it was at limited capacities its just not possible. The revenue just wouldn't be there and the only way to accomplish this is fans in seats and the government will not allow this right now the team relies on season STH's every week and walk-up sales and no team has the staff or resources to make that happen right now. Not to also count that the Bayshore Arena for the foreseeable future is still and will continue to be a field hospital for overflow Covid-19 patients and until such time that the city and the province give the green light and financial assistance to remove it that it will stay there and the OHL will not be played out of the Bayshore Arena.

Sorry folks.......I was trying to add a little humor. It didn't come off properly in written form.

I know that our society as a whole is at the mercy of this virus. Until we get it under control we are all in a suspended state. I understand that everyone involved with the Attack, OHL and CHL, are doing everything they can to make this season happen.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Maybe one of the most under-rated players to play in Owen Sound over the franchise. Truly a staple of what the Attack organization has created over the past decade. Sometimes you can't coach heart and Shawzy was one of those characters who had heart.

Still remember Shawzy penguining across centre ice after game 7 Championship win in Mississauaga.
