lol normally I'd be annoyed but Canes have M2 locked up so I got no issues (except feeling bad for PK who I enjoy seeing do well). I love me some Ovi, and just glad if we're getting scored on it's him and not any other player.

Yeah, if the Canes can spare that game, I won't complain as a Caps fan! Besides, it may lead to the two teams facing each other in the playoffs if the Caps make it in 3rd place, so that could be fun.

One of the many things I love about Ovechkin is his unabashed love for the game. A few years ago, there was a game against my Habs that was tied late in the 3rd. With seconds remaining, Ovi snaps a one-timer that was headed for the back of the net, except Price stabs out his blocker and somehow saves it. Ovi reacts by smiling and tapping Price's pads. Not only a classy move, but an example of how much he simply loves playing hockey. So yeah, absolutely, if Ovechkin breaks the record, it'll be a testament to his great attitude as much as his talent.
Can you change the title 800 to 850? 800 is so outdated and 850 is a nice round number too.

Do Caps fans think he's retiring after his contract ends in 2026? He will almost certainly need that 2026 season to break it but it looks like he could play well into his 40s if he wants to.

I hope he gives a candid interview about his turnaround this year after the season. Everyone has a theory but I'd like to hear what #8 thinks made the difference.
My guess is he was nursing something that calmed down with rest during the all-star break. That or it was the camel ride.

The guy is a bit the movie villain of goal scoring, some finger still moving.... there will be a sequel.

29 goals is McDavid, more than Tage Thompson, Marchand, Eichel, Guentzel, Kadri, Tavares, etc...

I just hope he scores one more and gets more than 4 points, so he can have another 30 goal season under his belt and doesnt let this become his worst (full, not counting the shortened ones) season, points wise.

I know people are waiting for #30 so OV has outright record with 18 such seasons.
It is a nice round number for sure.

But is is just another number for OV records.
OV now has most 29 goals seasons outright record (18 seasons).
If he scores 31, 32 goals, those will be outright records as well.
And OV holds outright records for 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 goals seasons...

It was a long time since his last hattrick. Ovechkin has scored 45 goals in the NHL since his last hattrick. That's more goals than he needs to score in order to break the record. There's a good chance we won't see any more hattricks from Ovechkin in the NHL...

The guy is carrying his shit team into a possible playoff spot. That's even more remarquable. He still celebrates his goals like he's in his early 20s and you can tell his teammates love him.

He turned Dylan Strome into a 60 pts player FFS! Jk, Strome has been a great pick up for them. Thank god he's there.
