Trochek was a Carolina Hurricanes, but they decided they didn't want to pay him (ditto Hamilton), so they let him go, and signed KK to replace him. The same KK, who's still playing 4th line minutes, and was put on wing because Rod the Bod doesn't trust him.
You mean the same KK that some people talked about being some mystical playoff warrior? The one with no point in 7 games?

That was a wicked shot by Makar for his goal. Bullet. I have no idea why NHL has Nikushkin's goal as unassisted. Makar definitely assisted on that.

Yup. Paying KK nearly $5m to be a 4th line winger is comical
It's a classic case of the sunk cost fallacy. They doubled down on a losing investment because they had already given assets for said investment. So instead of cutting the cord, they handed the player a long term contract justifying it with the player's age and supposed potential.

No, they extended the contract when he was an RFA before they knew the true extent of his suckitude

They stupidly handed him a $6 million dollar offer sheet so they could only qualify him for that amount or give him some security via a long term contract to lower the average salary. They had no leverage other than not qualifying him.

Right, but they were clearly ready to sign him because they did. If they had misgivings, you gotta think they wouldn't have extended the term sheet to begin with. It really wasn't doubling down imo
